Decided For Me

November 13th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (14 Comments)

My morning activity was decided for me today when I let Maxine cry just a little too long hoping she’d fall back to sleep.  She did fall back to sleep once I laid down with her a few minutes, but Zak did not fall back to sleep – and thus deciding to go into work early, leaving me to find something to do at home on this chilly fall morning.

Time to roll out the yoga mat.

Zak off to work + quiet house + 45 minutes of Yoga for Runners (my legs are still feeling shaky) + hot shower = time for breakfast.

Change of Plans

More homeschool ice skating today! Except today we found the equivalent to training wheels for beginner ice skaters.

Training Wheels for Ice Skaters

We had another little lesson this week from a very sweet instructor. (But would have preferred Sk8ter Gurl Hollyz or Ice Dancing With The Stars Cindy – sorry ladies, we had to settle.)

And within 10 minutes, she was off and running. Errrr, skating.

Now She's FAST

From the ice rink we skid home for a fast, late lunch and then off to the gym for homeschooling Phys Ed.

A frosty start this morning.

Frosty Start

It could been the middle of a blizzard for all I cared, I was getting out there today come hell or high water to play with my new toy!

New Toy

With a GPS strapped to my wrist I didn’t give two hoots about my route and just ran. I typically stick to a handful of routes that I know the mileage of so I know how far I went.

Free at last! Thank Garmin 405 almighty I’m free at last!

Glitter

Now this is what I call a real salad.

A Real Salad

I guess I’ll just have to be my own fruit and salad company. You know what they say! If you want something done right you just have to do it yourself. Can do.

We kept ourselves busy today, both in and out of the kitchen.

Let’s make more MamaBars!

Let's Make Banana Bites

Let’s make something with glitter! *insert insane shrieking here* ANYTHING WITH GLITTER! Let’s make it! Gliiittteeerrrrrrrrrr…

I’m not so sure though that the “do it yourself” cliche applies to Christmas ornaments. Some things really are better store-bought.

A Real Rest Day

November 11th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (14 Comments)

I declared Monday a rest day and then went and proceeded to rake and haul leaves for more than three hours, making Monday anything but a rest day.

Today though, is really going to be a rest day. After two days of non-stop action, this house is most definitely showing signs of neglect and lots of comings and goings… why do I feel so stressed when the house is a mess? Is it because stress and mess rhyme? Probably.

It must have been a sign from above that the Garmin 405 was picked up with a dead battery and needs to be recharged.

High Hopes

I had high hopes today.

High hopes that the Garmin 405 would be available to borrow at my local running store from their electronic lending library.

Beat Up 405

Score! After reading Shari’s post yesterday on gadgets I had Garmin envy and hit up the cheapest way I know to get my hands on a Garmin (FREE), even if it’s only mine for a week.

I had high hopes for a dinner out at a restaurant near Zak’s office before a homeschooling gathering tonight. He eats lunch here frequently and has only had good things to say about their salads.

Last night after Zak got home I showed him my butt and how high it was from the floor (one inch) and begged for him to handle bedtime by himself and let me off the hook to slither into bed 9pm.

This, my friends, is why it’s almost 10am and I am typing this post in complete silence. When mom’s away, the children will play… with dad… until very, very late at night. I have no idea what time they went to bed (I didn’t ask) but they are still sleeping and I am not complaining.

So anyway.

We Came, We Saw, We Raked

November 9th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Dinner Time - (16 Comments)

Before I realized that I never published my morning post, we were off like a herd of turtles to help my grandmother rake the sea of leaves in her yard.

Lots to Rake

And rake we did. Lots and lots of raking. Did I mention we raked today?

Not At School

And some jumping too.

Now you see her.

Now You See Her

Now you don’t.

Now You Don't

After a couple hours of yardio, we broke for lunch. Homemade bread and homemade squash soup. If that doesn’t just shriek AUTUMN in your ear like a banshee on a hayride I don’t know what does.

My hesitance to work out yesterday was my cue that it’s time for a rest day – so today’s the day. We’ve got another beautiful day in store for us and we’ll be outside and active for sure so it’s the perfect day to take a break.

Instead of getting my sneakers on, I turned the oven on.

Oven On

I. Must. Have. More. Squash. And. Apple. Curried. Soup.

I was feeling totally cold and lazy early this morning and not feeling my exercise mojo at all. But then the sun came up and the sky was just a little too clear, the air a little too crisp. It’s probably the very last of the gorgeous weekends we’ve got in store for us until spring and I couldn’t just sit here and let it pass me by.

Except the fates had other plans for me.

FLAT

Barely 2 miles in and I hear that all too familiar and none too welcome rubber-on-rubber sound effect. BLAAAAHHH.
