Innocent Until Proven Guilty

October 10th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Dinner Time - (11 Comments)

This juice sure looks innocent, doesn’t it? Today was the first day I made juice for both Zak and myself with the Breville. Zak likes a lot of ginger and the new juicer handles ginger like a real champ. These two facts are a dangerous combination, as I was a little too eager and generous with the ginger this morning.

Holy Ginger

I’m fairly certain that this juice tunneled new pathways in my sinuses. I think I shook my head and bugged out my eyes after every sip. But I still drank it all! No worries. I think I’m fully protected from any sort of flu that might try to invade my immune system from now until 2011, Swine or otherwise.

Farewell to the Acme Juicer

Oh Acme Juicer – you’ve done right by me.

Juuuice

The green just flows so easily from your spout.

Juicer Action

You’ve made me countless glasses of green juice.

Juice Poll

And some red juice too.

Green to Purple

We’ve had a lot of fun together.

Sneaky Juice

You’ve made me smile.

Green Juice

You’ve made me cry.

Liquid Bronze

But now it’s time to say farewell. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your new home with Mallory, wherever it is that Mallory lives. I’m sure she’ll take good care of you will appreciate you as much as I did.

Chia Pudding and a Story

October 6th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Dinner Time - (20 Comments)

What’s this?

Chia Pudding

No, not a new kind of tile for your bathroom floor. Guess again.

Spoonful

Nope, not fish eggs. Last chance.

Side View

YES! Chia pudding! You got it!

How did I make chia pudding?  OK I won’t make you guess, I’ll just tell you:

2 Tbsp of chia seeds
1/2 c unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tsp agave

Stirred and popped into the fridge for about 4 hours. I’ve seen chia pudding around and it’s been on my list of things to try ever since I won a 3 lb bag of chia seeds from Averie’s giveaway a few weeks ago. Averie posted four chia seed recipes this morning and that was it. Today was chia seed pudding day.

A Juice 22

October 5th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Dinner Time - (12 Comments)

After a weekend of eating out and juice bar hopping I’ve come realize I’m missing a lot of juice creativity and possibility when I stick with the same old, same old green lemonade day after day. Today I swapped out romaine for carrot – WOO living on the wild side!

Well, if carrots are what I’ve got – love the one you’re with, right?

Big Beets

A very pretty spinach salad with apples, raw cashews and craisins tossed in miso dressing and rice vinegar.

Pretty Spinach Salad

Different than my standard giant salad but I still feel like I’m spinning my wheels in a food rut.

A Foodie Day

October 3rd, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Dinner Time - (12 Comments)

It’s been a foodie day in photos to say the least.

My mom and I stopped about midway during our 2 1/2 hour drive for lunch at a Greek restaurant.

Greek Food For Lunch

Quite possibly the best tasting Vegetable Souvlaki ever. I’m sure part of the reason it why was so delicious was due to the fact that I was positively starving by the time we sat down to eat!

Veggie Souvlaki

We got to our hotel at about 3:00 – thrilled with our view of the city from our room!

View From Hotel

A few weeks ago I sent in a picture I took of the girls at zoo this summer to our newspaper for consideration for the “Our Towns” section.

Waiting

Low and behold it showed up today’s paper! I positively squealed when my dad called this morning to tell me. When I showed Ava she said “I’m in the newspaper! Finally!

Ava and Max in Today's Paper!

It’s been 5 1/2 long years since her birth announcement, I guess she’s been waiting.

So I’ve been inundated with bread lately. I’ve also been staring at an acorn and winter squash on my counter for a couple weeks now.

Today is our homeschool away from home day. That means it’s our pack a lunch day too.

What’s in today’s fantastic basket of food fun?

Fantastic Basket

This was lunch for me and Maxine. Ava’s was with her at her homeschooling school of homeschooled kids where they chuck wood like a wood chuck would.

Before I reveal the contents of our basket, I better back up. When I started to make hummus this morning I threw in today’s romaine, cucumber, lemon, apple and ginger juice pulp straight in with the garbanzos like the food processor was my compost bucket.

We had a little homeschooling play date here today and we broke from watercolors and horse play (really, Ava loves to pretend she’s a horse) to have lunch.

Veggie sandwich anyone? Well make your own cause this one is ALL. MINE.

Beloved Veggie Sandwich

There’s avocado in there but it’s hiding until a forest of red leaf lettuce. Plus tomato and mustard too on toasted Ezekiel.

Post lunch we hit up the playground for some “Outside Voice” time and large motor activities on something other than my furniture.

Ava loves to ask what she’ll be able to do when she’s X years old. What can she do when she’s 7? How old does she have to be to drive a car? How old will Maxine be when she’s 9? How old does Mommy think she is eating all those prunes?

Today in the car on the way to the grocery store (where else would we be going?) she asked what she can do when she’s 13.

Me: *thoughtful for a moment* Ummm, you can babysit.

Ava: BABY SIT?!? Naw, that’s boring.
