A Breakfast Carol

Today felt like an overnight oats kind of morning. Except I didn’t make overnight oats last night. Good thing “Overnight Oats” is just a trick of a name and it could more accurately be called “Just a Few Hours Oats”.

Into a bowl at 6 AM: 1/2 a mashed banana, 1/2 c of rolled oats, 1 Tbsp of almond butter, 1 Tbsp ground flax, a tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder and 1/2 c of chocolate almond milk.

And a single chocolate chip because I’m rowdy like that.

Not January Yet

It’s Sunday! How about starting today with a nice long run with Jillian Michaels on my shoulder? Jillian’s radio show may be over, but that doesn’t mean she can’t live on in my heart and my iPod too.

Jillian on My Shoulder

At 28 degrees, it was cold enough this morning to break out the pink fuzzy gloves. I think I got these gloves when I was in 6th grade. They matched the hot pink trim on my bright purple winter coat that year. Nearly 20 years later I’ve still got these gloves and I can only pray that jacket has been destroyed.

2 out of 3

What’s one of the first things I do when I wake up in the morning? Put in my contact lenses.

And what’s the first thing I saw today? Toys on the bathroom counter. But do you see what I see?

Dirty Toys

If I look in the mirror I see a lady with a dirty mind.

Toys

At least now I know why he smiles like that.

Now I Know

Soft porn toy pics make me hungry! I was in the mood for cereal and planned to do yoga at home, so I figured I’d pop some homemade cereal in the oven before I got my downward dog on.

Don’t You Eat that Yellow Snow

December 1st, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (22 Comments)

We take December 1st very seriously ’round these parts.

December 1

When I closed my eyes and laid my head on my pillow last night the grass was green! It was also November, so it must have been the flip of the December switch that did the trick.

I had a date with the pool this morning, and for a moment I entertained thoughts of how fun it would be to run in the snow today instead.

But then I cuffed myself upside the head and reminded my overly ambitious snow running self I’ve got all. winter. to run in the snow. Let’s not rush things.

Shakey Fists

I was off dark and early to the gym this morning. I was |this close| to driving there, when at the last minute I put my keys back and just ran there in the dark instead. It takes me 5 minutes to get there by car considering the time it takes to give the car a minute to warm up, park and walk into the building. Might as well just spend the 8 minutes running there and get my body warmed up instead.

Black Friday Virgin

November 27th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (13 Comments)

First the first time in my entire life, I got up early on the day after Thanksgiving to hit up a Black Friday sale. An email from the running store I shop at had some offers that were just too good to pass up.

FF Email

Well what do you know, I just so happen to be in the market for new running sneakers. Sale sneaks? A group run? Free food? I’ll be there!

The store was packed at 7:30 when I got there and after a half hour trying on sale shoes and elbowing my way through the crowd to the sales line, I got through checkout just in time to leave with the running pack at 8:00.

Stay At Home Turkey Trot

November 26th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (8 Comments)

I’ve run Turkey Trot races on Thanksgiving morning before. They are a lot of fun and it’s such a great way to start the holiday off on a healthy kick! I considered doing one again, but in the interest of time I decided to do my own little Turkey Trot at home for free this year.

My girlfriend Sharon came out this morning to run this morning and doing it together made it seem more like an “event”!

We hit the streets in my neighborhood at about 8 this morning for a nice and chatty Thanksgiving morning run.

French Toast Torture

November 25th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (13 Comments)

Given it’s Thanksgiving week, almost all of our normal homeschool-away-from-home activities have been canceled for the holiday. I wanted something warm for breakfast this morning but the idea of hot oatmeal just wasn’t doing it for me. Since we didn’t have to be anywhere this morning, I decided to spend some time on a more time-intensive breakfast.

Who wants French Toast for breakfast today?

*crickets chirping*

Why am I the only one raising my hand? French Toast is good YO! Well you and I know that, but my pint sized gang has never been interested in French Toast. Insanity you say? That’s what I say!

The Quickest Way to a Long Workout

November 24th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (9 Comments)

For my work out this morning I planned to hit the machines at the gym. I was surprised to find that the temperature was only in the mid 40’s, so at the last minute I decided to warm up by jogging the mile to the gym instead of driving.

Exactly 8 minutes and 19 seconds later I was at the gym to hit the elliptical for 20 minutes and then spent 15 very sweaty minutes on the stair climber. Why do you get so incredibly sweaty on that machine? Tell me! Someone tell me why!

Reunited and it Feels So Good

November 23rd, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (12 Comments)

Didn’t I just say the other day that swimming is one of my least favorite forms of cardio? It’s cold, it’s wet, it’s tedious, it’s boring. But just like that ex-boyfriend you run into after some time apart, you find yourself wondering what was really so bad about him after all.

This is my way of announcing that Swimming and I have decided to start seeing each other again.

Before hitting the pool early this morning I had a quick pre-swim date with almond butter. So quick in fact that I apparently couldn’t be bothered to even close the refrigerator door.
