It’s Sunday! How about starting today with a nice long run with Jillian Michaels on my shoulder? Jillian’s radio show may be over, but that doesn’t mean she can’t live on in my heart and my iPod too.
At 28 degrees, it was cold enough this morning to break out the pink fuzzy gloves. I think I got these gloves when I was in 6th grade. They matched the hot pink trim on my bright purple winter coat that year. Nearly 20 years later I’ve still got these gloves and I can only pray that jacket has been destroyed.
These are like wearing a mini blast furnace on each hand. Not only are they perfectly warm, they also happen to perfectly match my favorite self-knit pink hat. A hat I knit myself. Me. I knit that hat.
Have I ever mentioned that I knit that hat with my own hands? I did, it’s true.
Me, Jillian, the Pink Gloves and the Pink Hat set off for a Sunday long run adventure. Last year at this time, 5 or 6 miles was the furthest I went on any run. As soon as the cold weather set in my long runs packed it up and went south for the winter.
This year though, especially with a half marathon in mind for the spring, I want to keep my mileage up. It helps that long runs are much easier now than they use to be. I have to say thanks, at least in part, to my boyfriend Brendan Brazier for that.
I didn’t care about speed today. I just wanted to get out and spend some quality time on my feet. I hit the first mile at 9:00 exactly, and barely looked at my watch again until I got home.
Total time out this morning was 1:22:58 and mapmyrun reports that my total distance was 9.63.
Back for a breakfast of homemade cereal and bananas.
I’ve always been petrified of long runs in the winter. Today’s was not that bad. Of course it was sunny, there was no wind, the roads were dry and I only went 9 miles. Let’s chat about this again in mid-January and see what I have to say about then, hmm?
I have a few clothing items that I’ve had for ages and I also like to point out how old they are every time I wear them Think of the per wear cost- its probably like $.00005 at this point Gotta love that. Nice job on the run. I too hate running in the cold but I am going to try to blast through it this year. (I use the term “cold” lightly as I live in SC)
Hi
I just found your blog and think it is terrific. I just started a blog and it is not very entertaining I hope to follow some of your posts.
Nice job on the run with Jillian! Love the pink gloves!
9 miles in the cold is like a million miles!!! way to go love!
Oh Jillian, how I love her. π
I’m making your homemade cereal soon…I practically drool every time I see it.
Oh, and I was thinking today about how beautiful it was outside with our first snowfall. I felt like running. And then I remembered that there’s a whole lot of winter left to come, and by Jan/Feb, I’ll probably have a slightly different outlook on it…haha. But 9 miles *with* the snow and *in* the cold is most definitly something to be proud of, for sure!
(p.s. Love the hat, by the way! π )
You ROCK Alison…I am looking forward to the day where 3, or 5 or 9 miles is on my list of things I can do.
Tomorrow is week 4 of my Couch to 5K progress. I am nervous to see how long this week’s straight run is.
I am happy you enjoyed your run…1:22 is amazing!
I also need to get ready for my Low GI week.
I am ready after all this weekend’s treats!
and your pink gloves are sweet! 20 years is awesome and so is your hat, that you made yourself!
xo
Your home made cereal looks amazing lady!

i think jillian’s supposed to be on PBS today!
Girl, you’re braver than me – I can’t stand the thought of running as cold as it is out there! Of course, I’ve never been a runner so I guess I just don’t understand what drives you out the door, and down the road… π
Good job on your run.
I’m envious of your knitting skills. I tried to make a scarf once, but it just turned out to be one long string with some knots in it. I don’t have skills.
Thanks Melissa – LOL on the string with knots! π
Ah! She lived on through my iPod today, too!
Awwww, we were listening to Jillian together today!
Your beautiful wide-set eyes are a sky blue in nice contrast to the pink mittens/hat.
(and your pink lips match your knitted accessories….just a mum’s observation)
HAHAHAHA i have those exact same gloves. i kid you not. and i have also had them since middle school. that confirms it. we are obv meant to be friends.
work out that run girl – if it is above 20, i can run in winter. anything below…NO THANK YOU!
I totally feel less nerdy now knowing I’m not the only one with the big pink knobby mittens!
I too went for a run with the 28 degrees. All though i went as the sun was not quite up yet 7am, and there was still a bit of a wind. I made it the 3 miles i set out to run, got pretty warm after the 1swt 1/2 mile or so. I could have kept going but had to get home before Mat got out of the house and left the girls unatended.
i think i am the only person who has no idea what a jillian workout is like. you and Pea have talked about it. as have many other bloggers. seriously though i am clueless.
you are a brave soul to run in the crappy weather. i used to though when i lived in mpls and chicago. it sucks though
and yes:Have I ever mentioned that I knit that hat with my own hands?
you have. cuz i remember being sooo happy that you’re martha stewart meets food blogger meets ICAN leader
xoox
Love, love, LOVE the hot pink gloves and hat! So cute!
I was so close to running this morning, but my track was covered in ice. So sad! The sidewalks had some ice on them too, and I’m not a big fan of neighborhood running anyway because I live 10 blocks from a pretty bad area.
I love the mittens!! And the hat is cute too, where did you get it? π
Did you make that hat?
Maybe if you knit Jillian one, she’ll start her podcasts back up.
Blerg, I am that person who is not running in the cold weather and who has a half marathon in the spring. I need to grow a pair and get back out there. Thank you for reminding me why this is important. And why you are the coolest hippie mama out there; you of the knit your own hat skills.
Get out there girlfriend! You can do it!
You are so talented! Nice job on the hat that you knitted yourself. π
I too fear the long run in the cold. My goal for this winter is to conquer that fear. Looks like, you’ve mastered it!
