Uncle! Uncle!

Someone got the memo that it’s August and is supposed to be hot and humid here in upstate NY. I give! I give! The AC is on. Zak (and his brush) are back to work today. If he gets to spend the day in an air conditioned office so do we.

Today’s workout has been rescheduled to this evening to attend a yoga class. My first class, yoga or otherwise, in a very long time. My friend Andrea goes regularly and she suggested I could go as her guest at her YMCA class.

New Friends

Hello. Meet my lunch.

Simple Sandwich

A delectable vegetable sandwich on scrumptious toasted Ezekiel seven grain bread with a smattering of homemade two-day-old guacamole, freshly sliced tomatoes and store bought, hand washed fresh from the fridge romaine lettuce.

Side View

My sandwich has a friend I’d like you to meet too.

A mumbo jumbo plate of steamed cauliflower, shredded carrots and zucchini steamed in only the finest tap water this side of the Mississippi, topped with the Parmesaniest cheese this side of Wegmans.

Plate O'Veggies

Hey. Kid. Get your fingers out of my food. I’m trying to do introductions here.

Dreamy Sunday

Thank you all for your congrats on the 5K yesterday, I’m very happy with how it went, especially considering when I ran that same race in 2007 my time was 27:something. It’s just a reminder to me that sticking with something eventually pays off. Dropping 35 lbs since then certainly didn’t hurt my time either.

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to run or ride this morning, but when I noticed my legs were a little sore I figured I would ride and save running for Monday.

My pre-ride breakfast.

Hard core, straight off the cutting board, who-needs-a-plate, kiwi.

Let’s Pretend

After the race this morning we headed out on our next adventure. Open water swimming.

Open Water Swim

Um no, not me. I sat on the blanket and ate lunch. Zak and Shawn swam a mile around some buoys out on this lake, to help Shawn prepare for his triathlon next month. I do the running part, Zak does the swimming part. How handy are we as friends??

Lunch Spread

Ava pretended she was a deep sea diver.

She's Ready

I pretended I haven’t eaten this sandwich 100x already this week while also pretending Maxine wasn’t sitting in my lap lest a grain of sand get in between her toes.

New 5K PR

It’s race day!

I got up and made myself a glass of green juice for some pre-race fuel.  I use to eat a bagel or oatmeal before races but now I’m a green believer.

Pre-race fuel

I couldn’t decide if I wanted coffee before the race or not. By the time I decided I did want a cup I didn’t have enough time to make a pot. I stopped on the way and got a small coffee from a coffee shop with a little half and half.

The Classroom

Today the girls went with Ellen, giving Zak and I chance to remember what the other one’s voice sounded like without the typical screeching and classic interrupting. We talked about going out to eat, a movie, shopping… the afternoon was our child free oyster.

My bucket of watermelon held me over for a while, but without warning I realized how empty my stomach felt and I was going to go from hungry to starving in about .256 seconds if we didn’t get to a restaurant STAT.

To buy myself some time, I made a little banana mullet snack.

Lesson in Latin

I’m pretty sure Rest Day is Latin for Sit at Your Desk All Morning and Eat Watermelon Instead of Working Out cause that’s exactly all I’ve done so far today.

With a 5K tomorrow morning where I’m hoping to Whoop Serious Ass (Latin for –> Beat My Spring 5K PR of 23:21) I am resting my legs today with the plan to let the glycogen stores fill to the very brim and maybe even spill over.

And I’m way excited to introduce you to the newest contender in the Raw Food Rumble.

I think the best thing about days where I only drink green juice and eat fruit until lunch (a la Natalia Rose and The Raw Food Detox Diet) might possibly be banana whip as part of this complete breakfast.

Yay Banana Whip

And watermelon. But you knew that.

For lunch I was figuring out what to have with my salsa and carrots. I whipped up some garlic hummus and did my open faced sandwich thing.

But first let me say that we love, love, love this brand of salsa.

My favorite salsa

In Parenthesis

My first fruit snack of the day consisted of two kiwi with the fur on. Fruit fashion faux pas or not, I rolled with it (and quickly too lest anyone throw a bucket of red paint on it in protest).

Sliced Kiwi

Lunch was my (as of late) favorite open faced homemade guac sandwich. As I was cutting up carrot sticks for my side of crunch I remembered something I saw Sarah of LovinMyTummy fame do and broke out a the salsa.

Wednesday Lunch

(My carrots are hoping you’ll give peace a chance.)

Salsa and carrots? Brilliant.
