Today started with nice and easy 5.28 miles in just over 40 minutes.

While I was on my run, Zak picked breakfast from our tiny berry patch the backyard.

Those little red berries in the back are currants, there are also red raspberries, small cherries and some black raspberries hiding in the pile too.

Whoops! Lucky for you we’re vegetarian so you are pardoned Mr. Slug.

Zak and I ate fruit for breakfast together standing on the deck since the chairs were still wet from last nights rain. I busted out the watermelon for a little more pink.

OK A LOT more pink. I ate that and then a bunch more.

It’s been about an hour and a half since my first meal of fruit and not surprisingly, I’m already feeling hungry again.

Fruit gets through the stomach in 30 minutes on an empty stomach so I’m ready to move on to oats.

Rolled oats are not raw. They are technically processed because they are steamed to keep them from going rancid. Even so, they aren’t heavily processed and are pretty close to their natural state, so for my purposes I’m happy keeping oats in my life.

oats

Last night I soaked a half cup of oats mixed with flax seed, chopped dates, sliced almonds and almond milk. Just to be clear for anyone looking for proper food combos, this is not properly combined. Dried fruit and nuts are fine but and grains and nuts should not be eaten together.

So many rules! I have these moments where I think it’s ridiculous and silly, but then the science lover in me thinks there really could be something to this. I’m still enjoying the experiment.

And what’s that saying? If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got.

Wow…….you got all of those berries from your yard???? How do you do it? Do you put anything on them to keep the bugs away? My poor plants didn’t survive poking an inch out of the ground.

How neat to be able to just pick your OWN fruit. :)

What do currants taste like? Are they sweet?

  • How are you liking your new camera? The photos all look so great…beautiful and crystal clear! 😀

    Love the oatmeal mix…yum!

  • Those currants are so cute! They must take forever to eat…

  • I am so jealous of your fruit! :) My parents grew currants in their yard, and I didn’t appreciate them at all until I moved out… Well, I didn’t really appreciate any of the home-grown organic, amazing fruits and veggies I grew up on… (I should remember this more often when I get frustrated with the teenager!)

Sorry, forgot to add great post! Can’t wait to see your next post!

  • I’m glad you pardoned the slug. Besides breaking your own vegetarian rules, I have a feeling fresh slug would not taste so yummy. Thanks for your nice words today. It helps. :)
