Cash Rules Everything

My camera has seen better days.

Better Days

And no, taking this picture could not wait even a single second for me to take off my hat or jacket.

Apparently the front cover of my camera lost its lust for life about a month or so ago.  It’s barely holding on here.  I had to resort to rubber bands, hair ties and super glue to hold it together.

These materials were doing a fine job of getting my camera through its tough time – and I was especially appreciative of the fact that they saved me from the snotty “Lens Error. Restart Camera. (You Jerk.)” message it would give me whenever the lens got caught up in the front cover.

Tribe

This spring I had a fellow Stay-At-Home(schooling)-Mom friend propose an idea to me that she called Tribe. Basically, the idea was that we’d pack up our respective broods and head on over to someone’s house one day each week to spend a few hours getting some real work done. Painting, cleaning, cooking, organizing, gardening, yard work – whatever anyone needed to get done, we’d get it done.

You Have GOT to be Kidding Me

Finger Felon

This post is brought to you courtesy of my right hand. And the title of this post has only to with the bandage job because, well, I mean – really now.

Besides that? I’m happy! For the first time in well over a week, my the tip of my left index finger does not hurt! At least until the local anesthesia wears off and I have to crack into this bottle of Vicodin here. Better hurry up and click Publish before this post makes a liar out of me.

I’m a (Finger) Felon

Alternate post titles also considered this evening:

Option 1: Paging Dr. Weeds
Option 2: You Have GOT to be Kidding Me
Option 3: (Don’t) Pull My Finger

Finger Felon

Do you see how the tip of my left index finger looks a little large and in charge there?  It is swollen and although it looks pretty innocent, let me tell you – it hurts. Like, bump-it-just-right-and-I-feel-like-I-might-puke kind of pain. Pain that had me out of bed and googling “swollen, painful finger tip” at 4 AM on Monday morning.  (See Post Title Option #2 above.)

Let Us Give Thanks

November pretty much marks the end of bike riding season for me – as it should.  That’s when it starts getting really cold and blowy and sucky around here.  It’s also when I start giving thanks for turtlenecks, gloves and more importantly, new Y memberships that mean a winter full of heated pools and yoga classes.

So, one last bike ride yesterday for the year.

Bundled Up

And a little thank you to my Armadillo puncture resistant tires.

What a Nut Job

“What the hell are those things?” you’re surely saying out loud right now. I don’t blame you. About a month ago I was saying that exact same thing because I didn’t know either.

Gathered

Turns out we’ve got a black walnut tree at this here city residence of ours. Right about this time of year, said black walnut tree drops about 643 black walnuts into my tiny back yard. My hyperbolic guesstimative calculations figure that’s about 25 walnuts per square foot of green space.

Black Walnut Tree

Some where in the span of the last half year – give or take a couple weeks – life went from sickly sweet and seemingly picture perfect to oh-so-insanely soap opera-ish that even Susan Lucci would have to change the channel because she can’t keep up.

Yes, once upon a time I used to watch All My Children.  So sue me.

Yes, yes, I know.  It’s been a while.  I’m still here though.  Still running.  Still riding.   Still drinking green juice.  Still eating salads as big as my head.  Still living in the cityStill blogging. Oh no, wait, not quite.  Blogging again?  Hmmm, maybe.  I don’t know for sure just yet.

What I do know though is that today I’m feeling motivated to write a little something about the newest thing I’m currently psyched about:

Raising our own backyard chickens.

Signs of Life

After a much needed break from the land of blogging, I’m feeling ready to peek my head out and tread carefully into the sea I got swept up and carried off in almost a year ago.

I can make no promises as to the frequency of posts at this time. I haven’t even turned my camera on in well over a week. But I believe that I’m back and if you’re still peeking in even after I locked the blog down, know that there is more Mama’s Weeds craziness in store for all of us in the days and weeks to come.

It’s Not Goodbye

A very wise woman once said, blogging is fun, but life is real.

Indeed Mama Pea. Indeed.

Blogging, at least to the extent that I have taken it with two posts a day most days, as well as all the other duties that come along with being active in the blogging community, is time consuming to say the least. As life changes and evolves, the needs of my family as well as my own needs change and evolve too. Time is a pretty hot commodity around here, and while I’ve enjoyed finding the time to blog regularly this spring, summer and fall – our new house and the start of a new year have made it abundantly clear that there is suddenly less time to go around.
