The Last 10 Pounds

November 6th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in - (25 Comments)

In the first half of 2008, I lost over 35 pounds and went from weighing 165 to 128. Over the course of the following 6 months I gained back some of that weight and landed comfortably in the low to mid 130’s. I have been able to maintain that weight by eating a diet consisting of whole foods as well as regular exercise.

For almost all of 2009 I have wanted to get back into the 120’s. I have finally decided to get serious and go back calorie counting, the same way I lost the last 23 of my total 37 pounds in about two and a half months. I’m dedicating the month of November to calorie counting using The Daily Plate in my quest to lose the last 10 pounds.

Confessions

It’s Tuesday. That means it’s a magic basket full of snacks for me and one or more of the offspring. Today’s basket of packed goodness was for me and Ava. I was unexpectedly assisting in her homeschooling class today. Maxine stayed behind with Aunt Ellen while Ava and I forged ahead.

I was of course excited to dig into my MamaBar and give it a real trial run. (i.e., not sampling it over the food processor bowl.) I chowed this puppy moments before getting out of the car to tackle a room full of 5 and 6 year olds for three hours. I needed every last ounce of coconut oil.

Insomnia struck early this morning from about 2 until 4am. I slept in and got up when the girls did sometime before 8. I did yoga at home this morning with only a few interruptions for granola bars and one bonked head. A big shout out to Caillou today for baby sitting for about 40 minutes while mama got her downward dog on.

Caillou is not so great at preventing five year old’s from smashing their heads into things. Oh well, what can I say. He’s four – and he didn’t charge me.

Make Your Own MamaBars

When I made Averie’s RAWking chocolate donut holes last week, I got to thinking that these were basically homemade Larabars. They were really good – and they were chocolate! I don’t know about you, but the chocolate Larabars leave much to be desired. I think I can do a little better. Wait, I DID do a little better! (Thank you Averie.)

Are you smelling what I’m smelling?

I’m gonna make me some MamaBars.

The only thing is, I’m kind of curious to know how many calories might be in a MamaBar versus a Larabar. I was in the mood for a little project tonight so I got to work.

Weight Loss Story

March 22nd, 2009 | Posted by Alison in - (61 Comments)

I’ve always been fairly active and believed I ate mostly healthy.  Although I’ve never been seriously overweight, I still struggled with my weight for what felt like the majority of my life.

My weight hung out in 130’s in high school, creeping up to the 140’s by graduation and then into the 150’s for The College Years.  I slimmed down to the low 140’s again before our wedding in 2001, but my weight made its way back up to the mid 150’s and 160’s in the years following babies and beyond.  At 5’3″ with a medium frame, I knew my ideal weight was closer to 125 or 130 than 165 to be sure.
