Zak didn’t exactly get to go home early today due to garlic breath, but he did get home earlier than usual tonight. We loaded the whole family into the car and hit up the pool at the fitness center for some family fun and exercise too.

Swimming is probably my least favorite form of cardio, but I rather enjoyed it tonight. Maybe because I haven’t swam laps since the spring? Whatever the reason, it was a nice change of pace and I swam laps for 30 minutes, alternated 100 yards of freestyle and 100 yards backstroke while Zak entertained children in the shallow end. He got his turn to swim laps while I took cold, wet girlies into the locker room for nice long hot showers on someone else’s dime (forgive me, Mother Earth), blow drying hair and hiding in lockers until dad was done and ready to go.

I felt much better this morning after my some green juice and a family walk to the playground. I definitely was up for a trail run when Shawn, my running partner in crime, showed up and we headed out to a large park just down the road to hit the trails.

I need a do over of this picture because it would be much more interesting if me and/or Shawn were in this shot – but alas, I didn’t think about that until I was home, photo op lost.

Oh wait, there I am.

Homeschooling Ice Skating started today.

If you decide to go, get your act in gear.
If you decide to stay home, stay in your pajamas.

OK! Let’s get our act in gear! Time to go ice skating!

If you decide to abandon your oldest and send her out by herself with blades strapped to her feet, be sure to take a picture of it.

Going through the bin of winter stuff. This is what I call a rocking Monday night.

Rocking Monday Night

Oh big pink mittens how I’ve (not really) missed you. It won’t be much longer now until I’m wiping my runny winter running nose on you.

Big Pink Mittens

Geez I hope I washed those before I put them away for the season. They weren’t crunchy so I’ll take that as a good sign.

What else do we do around here for fun on Monday night? Why we wait for the corn to pop.

After a meeting this morning, more errands, taking Ava to her homeschool gym class, I decided we had not yet done enough running around so we hit up Wegmans for “just one thing”.

Usually I groan when I see Christmas stuff out at the stores before Halloween, but today I squealed!

Holiday Teas!

Celestial Seasonings Holiday Teas are back! They’re back everyone! They’re BACK!

I fell in love with these last year. More specifically, Candy Cane Lane and Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride.

Today I saw a new recipe for hummus – cashew hummus! Raw cashews will be playing the roll of tahini today – thanks for understanding.

Peer into my food processor bowl. You must! You have no choice!

Making Cashew Hummus

1 15 oz can of garbanzo beans, drained but not rinsed
1 c raw cashews
2 cloves of garlic
1/4 c extra virgin olive oil, a drizzle more if necessary
Juice from one lemon (about 4 Tbsp of lemon juice I’d guess)
Sprinkle of cayenne pepper
A few shakes of dried basil (or fresh would be better but I didn’t have any!)

This picture makes my lunch look so lovely. I think it’s the book in the background.

Hummus Sandwich and Gazpacho

A spread of sun dried tomato hummus on gently toasted Ezekiel bread, plump sliced tomatoes, home grown sprouts with a blanket of red leaf lettuce and a dabble of mustard. Chilled gazpacho made with the finest seasonal vegetables hand selected from a local grower.

I’m afraid I was not tickled to hear that any Sigg bottles made before August 2008 have trace amounts of BPA in their liners. I bought ours early in 2008 so ours were definitely tainted.

Maxine and I ran errands in the acid rain while Ava was at her crunchy granola homeschooling class today. Ditching these bottles was on the list of things to do. An article just showed up in the newspaper announcing that Wegmans is taking back ALL Sigg bottles made before August 2008 no matter where you bought them and offering you a replacement or a refund.

If the pictures I took today were going to be used for book covers, the titles of said books might be the following:

Always Listen to Your Mother

In the Dark

My mom called after my post this morning to tell me sprouts should be sprouted in the dark. Who knew? Well – Mom, apparently! Into the cupboard they went.

Beets and the Girls Who Eat Them

Steaming Beets

Who doesn’t want a little AliSUN in their day?

AliSUN

Anyone who doesn’t read this blog, apparently.

I ran to the soothing sounds of having New Moon read to me. Finally! Someone who reads to me!

New Moon - Visitor

I set out to run 5 miles and was back in about 40 minutes. I was ready to be done running but not ready to head back inside yet so I hopped on my bike for a 20 minute cool down ride and took advantage of the opportunity for a slightly longer work out today.
