Caterpillar Kick Counts

I planned a long ride for this morning knowing I didn’t have to rush back with Zakman on vacation.

I prepped a pound of strawberries and chowed about half a pound before my ride.

Headed out on my bike on this perfect summer morning for 15.4 miles in 1 hour and 1 minute.

Upon my return I promptly polished off the other half pound of strawberries and the last of my pineapple too.

Yes, I practice dish conservation.

I checked in on our little buddy this morning too.

Decisions, Decisions

July 28th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (16 Comments)

On any given day, at any given moment, the answer to my own question “Are you going to run the marathon again this year or what?!” could go like this:

1. Or what.
2. Yes, of course I am.
3. Maybe.
4. I’ll do the half.

I’ve got a million different reasons for wanting to run it. I’ve got the same number of reasons why I think I shouldn’t.

I cycle around though all four answers at varying speeds, coming back to #1 when I think of the time commitment involved in training. Time is a hot commodity these days.

Sorta Long Run Monday

Zak is off today to catch up on family time, so I decided today would be a good day to make up for no running for two days and get a sorta long run in too.

I got up to whip up the best pre-run fuel I could think of. A Tequila Green Lemonade Sunrise.

Day Numero Four with no early morning work out. Zak gets home tonight. Hallelujah.

My morning green lemonade in a tall, tall glass.

In the Tall, Tall Grass.

Egads you can’t even tell how tall that glass is when it sinks into the grass! Someone write “Mow Lawn” on the to do list.

OK, OK, in truth the grass just grows really tall in that one spot and worked well for a reference to an old favorite. Don’t go calling the housing association on me just yet.

Adventures in Homeschooling

Exercise this morning is going to be in the form of a homeschooling adventure. My mom is coming to stay with Maxagirl while Ava and I take off on a little road trip.

I enjoyed my breakfast with staying power!

I ate while I packed our lunch

and started compiling the stuff we need to take with us today.

Nothing like eating breakfast when you’re tearing around the house like a mad woman. OK in truth I just walked around normally, but sometimes I like to call myself a mad woman. “Walking around the house like a mad woman” just doesn’t paint the same kind of picture.

Liquid Diet

The schedule is a little thrown off with Zakattack not here to stay with the girls while I run, ride or otherwise escape first thing in the morning. My run for today has been pushed back a couple of hours.

I started the morning out right with a glass of green lemonade, a la Natalia Rose.

I stocked up on ginger the last time I was at the grocery store. Considering I only use an inch or two at a time, I think this ginger tree should last me a while, no?

Someone Knew it was a Rest Day

A totally soggy morning.

How convenient I’d planned for today to be a rest day.

Even the cats are taking it easy. Minus a little neck biting.

Maxine was up early. Only to fall back to sleep.

A leisurely breakfast cookie for me.

And coffee.

Time to lace up my shoes and get to work around this house. I can’t help but be reminded of my new favorite quote as I dig down to find the motivation to get moving:

Last night’s post was canceled due to a meeting, eating only left overs and the absence of any picture taking yesterday.

I was totally bummed last night to read that one of my favorite healthy mama bloggers was forced to hang up her blogging hat.

I SWEAR TO YOU right after reading Sarah’s last post I thought: that would be like hearing Jillian isn’t going to do her radio show anymore.

This morning as I was getting ready for my run, I went to download Jillian’s podcast from her Sunday show, only to read this:

What’s In a Name?

July 21st, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (15 Comments)

Just recently I told Ava that when I was pregnant with her, I wanted to name her Grace. Daddy wasn’t crazy about that name, and we eventually agreed on Ava. I also told her that I had first wanted Maxine to be named Leah, but that name was vetoed too.

Ava is often correcting me when I call her Ava saying “No, my name is _______”. Where _______ might be Zaza, Zandrea, Zander, Priscilla, and more recently, Leah. All sorts of stuffed cats, ponies and Barbies have recently taken on the name Leah as well.

Before my run this morning I dug into my stash of strawberries and blueberries that I snagged from the Farmer’s Market on Saturday.

just_food

Food combining rules say fresh fruit is supposed to be “eaten alone or leave it alone”. I have found that *just fruit* is the perfect pre-run/workout fuel. This works perfectly before a run because obviously my stomach is empty from the night before and when eaten alone fruit leaves the stomach in 30 minutes. (45 minutes for a banana.) It gives me a nice little energy boost and by the time I’m dressed and ready to hit the pavement I don’t have to worry about running on a full belly.
