Someone got the memo that it’s August and is supposed to be hot and humid here in upstate NY. I give! I give! The AC is on. Zak (and his brush) are back to work today. If he gets to spend the day in an air conditioned office so do we.
Today’s workout has been rescheduled to this evening to attend a yoga class. My first class, yoga or otherwise, in a very long time. My friend Andrea goes regularly and she suggested I could go as her guest at her YMCA class.
Work out time this morning was spent instead working to get our upstairs back in order after turning it completely upside down on Friday.
Bookcases refilled and reorganized. Games upstairs, bedroom closet cleared out, clothes moved, folded, put away. I’m already feeling more centered and less cluttered, despite the pile of clutter still to be put away over to my right here.
And now it’s time to pause and reflect over the wonder that is the breakfast cookie with coffee.
Holy 1% milk froth.
Today’s breakfast cookie was one for the Cookie Hall of Fame. What made this one so special you ask? Less milk!
1/2 smashed banana, 1+ Tbsp Almond butter, 1/2 c rolled oats, sprinkle of ground flax, sprinkle of organic shredded unsweetened coconut and just a very stingy splash of almond milk. And why I say stingy, I’m talking Ebenezer Liquid stingy.
Usually I use close to a 1/4 cup of milk, last night it was closer to a tablespoon. Firmer and definitely more like a cookie today.
Staycation over, time to get back into the swing of things.
On the agenda?
1. Work on this upstairs
2. Fire up the food dehydrator
Addendum:
3. Teach Ava crochet, Day 2. Can’t believe she actually got the yarn and hook out after yesterdays self inflicted meltdown. She said she wants to make herself mittens. Let’s get the chain part down first, ok kiddo? Hoping for less tears today. From us both. Do you remember being a kid trying to learn how to do this stuff?? Totally brings me back.
And for the record, this staycation was the most relaxing, cheapest, enjoyable family vacation we’ve yet to take as a family of 4. Sometimes staying home is where it’s at.
Coffee’s kicking in. Off I go.
I totes remember Mama D teaching me to crochet. I think I crocheted a chain that would wrap around the house no less than three times. I was a chain stitching fool!
Enjoy your yoga class. I think you’ll love it!
Zak and his brush heading back to work made me laugh.
That’s cool that Ava wants to learn how to crochet. I remember making potholders with some sort of kit when I was little. (haha) One day, when I have time, I’ll get back into cross-stitching which I love.
Hope your day is ultra productive!!
awww Ava will eventually learn how to crochet. trust me it took me forever to learn, and still to this day i have a hard time at certain things. it’ll be so worth it in the end!
My sister taught me how to crochet; and yes, it was tough…
I’m so with you on staying home; sometimes staying home is the best vacation, especially when you have a toddler who likes drama (like refusing to take a bath in any bathtub other than the one at home…) 😉
Enjoy your yoga class!
chain..RIP
chain …RIP
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOM quit doing that
chain….RIP
i’m going to bed
(but i have the best chain on the block)
(ps I taught my teenager how to crochet) shhhh he’ll KILL ME for sharing that!
KNITTING ANYONE?
I am getting antsy to get my spinning wheel out!
I didn’t realize you were on a staycation! I just sat here secretly wishing we did fun things all the time like you! SHEW.
My staycation day was my stay home with bubs…. it was fun.
my breakfast cookies are WAY dense and me n baby share it all day (or two) we just break off “cookie” bites and nibble away.
did I THANK YOU for the recipe?
I’m totally digging your breakfast cookie….that looks AWESOME. I mean, cookies anytime in the morning are delicious…but healthy cookies in the morning are even better!
A staycation sounds GREAT! We are going to Florida on Thursday. I’m really excited to go but dreading having the kids on 2 planes, time zone change by 3 hours, eating, playing and sleep schedule off…… um, can I stay home please??

How have I not known about the breakfast cookie? That one looks tasty. I’m going to have to try the recipe. A cookie sounds like a great way to start the day

So wish I had a breakfast cookie ready to eat this morning. No idea what I feel like but that would definitely hit the spot.
I love being at home too, esp. when it’s organised and tidy. Good luck with the crocheting – I’ve only recently learnt how to do it myself.

YAY for yoga!! The upside down picture totally made me dizzy!

I cannot believe a) you sold out blue baby and b) it took this long to make an appearance.
I can crochet, but once I learned, I stopped, because the yarn I used was really bad (lion microspun anyone? *twitch*)
haha, that upside down photo at first reminded me of a time my friends turned EVERYTHING in another friends room upside down. posters, furniture, belongings.. hilarious.
anyway! loving that BC, i need to make one soon. they really are SO filling. i like mine with less liquid as well.
can you come teach me crochet?? i want to know how to make beanies for this winter!!
