Pea Soup

Party in the park!

kids

We had fun at the park today with rulers and colored pencils learning about vertical lines, horizontal lines, diagonal lines, and the different kind of shapes we can make with these lines. Good stuff.

Maxine wants to hear that last bit on “vertical lines” one more time though.

We worked on our balance and poise a bit too.

Running short on time, I threw everything portable I had into a bag before we ran out the door. We had a small lunch at the park, lets call this Lunch Part I.

A larabar impostor. Never had this before, it was a freebie. It was ok, not bad, but not great either.

Some beat up but still yummy snap peas.

The girls and I split this not so great, very chalky ThinkThin chocolate bar. This was another freebie and I’m glad I didn’t spend any money on it. Rest assured I won’t be spending on money on these in the future either.

On the way home we hit up the hippy dippy grocery co-op that I rarely get to.

My booty:

That would be a big container 2% plain chobani (!!), honey chobani (on sale!), I replenished my Larabar stash and the best for last…

BULK nut butters!

After I put my eyes back in my head and picked my jaw up off the floor I immediately scooped me up some almond butter and cashew butter! I’ve always wanted to try cashew butter but have not wanted to buy a whole jar of it. This was perfect!

And check out the price?!

receipt

Considering it’s nearly $10 a lb for a jar of Woodstock Farms AB (my fav and totally worth it) and Cashew Butter is even more, I think I’ll be visiting the bulk nutter store again very soon. They also had bulk pb, tahini and a “free for all” (mixed) nut butter too. Healthy food heaven.

And oh yeah we also bought two small packages of “Snackimals” cookies for my two snack animals. ;)

So let’s call this Lunch Part II. A green smoothie with spinach, vanilla soy milk and frozen mango and some granola on top. Plus the last of my 2% cottage cheese and some strawberry and blueberry lovin!

And of course I couldn’t wait to take my cashew butter for a spin.

choc

Pure. Bliss.

While I made dinner I had dessert first. I couldn’t wait. The new almond butter was just begging to go on a date. This, x3

Mmmm almond butter on my thumb. Classy.

For dinner I made a totally new recipe, Jenna from Eat, Live Run’s vegan split pea soup. I’m not sure I’ve EVER had split pea soup before (though I know my mom made it when I was a kid, HI MOM!), but this turned out pretty dang good. We’ve got a bunch now to last a few days of leftovers for lunch and dinners!

Although I’ll admit the looks of it reminded me a lot of jarred baby food peas. I had my baby food with Guiltless Gourmet baked blue tortilla chips on the side.

And I now present you with the obligatory joke:

After everything I say, you say “Pea Soup”.

What’d you have for breakfast?

_______.

What’d you have for lunch?

_______.

What’d you have for dinner?

_______.

What’d you have for a snack?

_______.

What’d you do all night?

_______.

Out the door first thing this morning for a 4.2 mile run in 34 minutes. I took it easy and just enjoyed a jaunt around the neighborhood. A perfectly cool, sunny morning with my girlfriend Jillian.

Once I got home to find everyone still sleeping, I decided to take a cool down ride and rode the long way to my little grocery store to pick up coffee knowing we were out. After I read Master Your Metabolism a few months ago and along with listening to Jillian talk on and on about the pesticides that conventionally grown coffee beans are covered in, I decided it was worth it to make the switch to organic.

I was shocked to find this store had organic coffee. You know organics are catching on when the little rinky dink smells-like-they-mopped-the-floor-with-fish-guts corner grocery store is carrying Green Mountain and Newman’s Own Organic Coffees.

I was positively STARVING by the time I got home and whipped up a big cereal mess in the kitchen.

Look at the time! No wonder I was hungry!

Is someone gonna do those dishes in the sink or what?

A base of 2% Fage, layers of ground flax, Heart to Heart, homemade granola, bananas and a scoop of almond butter.

And hard earned coffee with a few glugs of organic 1% with my good friend Google Reader.

Off on another kiddie adventure today for an informal art project put together by a homeschooling mom friend. Packing lunch again along with art supplies and fish guts. You know, just in case someone wants me to mop their floor.
