I’m a (Finger) Felon

Alternate post titles also considered this evening:

Option 1: Paging Dr. Weeds
Option 2: You Have GOT to be Kidding Me
Option 3: (Don’t) Pull My Finger

Finger Felon

Do you see how the tip of my left index finger looks a little large and in charge there?  It is swollen and although it looks pretty innocent, let me tell you – it hurts. Like, bump-it-just-right-and-I-feel-like-I-might-puke kind of pain. Pain that had me out of bed and googling “swollen, painful finger tip” at 4 AM on Monday morning.  (See Post Title Option #2 above.)

Fall Back…

Fall Back

…into the leaves, that is. Oh yeah, clocks too.

Now that the last of the leaves are on the ground, I’ll agree to rake.

Last Leaves Finally Fallen

With a little help, of course.

Help Me Rake!

(And I mean a very little.)

Who needs cardio when there’s yardio? Today’s work out left my yard looking very N.E.A.T. Unfortunately I can’t say the same thing about my hair.

Raking

Yard work today was a family affair. Two up front and two in the back.

Trail Running Truths

November 6th, 2010 | Posted by Alison Spath in Fitness - (4 Comments)

Welp, a trail race was on the agenda for this morning! 10 kilometers to be exact.

Yes sir – 10 cold, rainy, snowy and more rainy kilometers. On the agenda.

Also on the agenda? A bunch of lessons to be learned. Get ready to take some notes.

Stay in the car as long as you can.

Rainy Race Day

Let’s not rush to get out there just to stand around in the snow and rain, mmmk?

Wet Shawn

Snow is better than rain.

Wet Snow

Because you don’t get soaked quite as quickly. Whose idea was this race anyway?

Brought to You by the Letter Y

Never does the second to last letter of the alphabet look as good as it does on a cold and rainy Friday morning.

The Letter Y

I find it a tad ironic that I hit the Y to avoid getting cold and wet, only to go inside and get cold and wet.

Full Pool

Actually, the Y is pretty warm which makes swimming much more enjoyable compared old, cold, damp and dreary place I use to swim laps in the old ‘hood.  Today was my first early morning swim session this season and it was easy to jump right in and get moving.

A Time for Fish

Earlier this week we met up with some of our unschooling, nature loving friends for a salmon run adventure.

We were the first to arrive,

Salmon Run

so we figured out how to keep ourselves entertained as we waited for our friends to join us.

One by one a colorful gang of kids showed up,

Right around this time every year, the salmon make their way back up the creeks and streams in this area to spawn,

I really enjoy playing around with different ways of eating – figuring out what works for me and what doesn’t. It’s like a science experiment really, and I like experimenting on myself. Wait, I mean, I like playing with myself. Ummm, no, that’s not what I meant either.

I read The Zone like 100 years ago, and while the eating plan described there is rather complex and a lot to keep track of, it was still my introduction to the importance of getting fat, carbs and protein at each meal.

Let Us Give Thanks

November pretty much marks the end of bike riding season for me – as it should.  That’s when it starts getting really cold and blowy and sucky around here.  It’s also when I start giving thanks for turtlenecks, gloves and more importantly, new Y memberships that mean a winter full of heated pools and yoga classes.

So, one last bike ride yesterday for the year.

And a little thank you to my Armadillo puncture resistant tires.
