Notice anything “funny” about these advertisements from H&M?
Do the bodies look a bit similar to you?
H&M has admitted that some of the bodies of their models are computer generated and the heads of real models are copy and pasted on.

Nice, eh? I suppose one could choose to be outraged by this, but I think I’m going with “relieved!” for my emotion of choice.
It’s no secret or surprise that advertisers air brush and photoshop the human imperfections out of their models, although I for one never seem to remember that when I’m looking at photos of beautiful men and women and their seemingly perfect bodies in magazines and catalogs. But bodies that are COMPLETELY computer generated? That takes it to a whole new level! It’s like saying “no body is perfect enough to model our clothes, so we had to make one up.”
Hmmm. No body is perfect. <begin sarcasm> What an interesting idea! </end sarcasm>
H&M says this isn’t about having difficulty finding the perfect body and that they use a combination of real life models and “virtual mannequins” for their online store. I assume their computer graphic tricks save money and time in terms of production efforts. I think that’s why this news doesn’t infuriate me. In fact, some how it makes me feel better about my own body image in some convoluted way. THOSE AREN’T EVEN REAL BODIES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
You see, this is why I’m sticking with “relieved”. No body is perfect.
Or perhaps we’re all perfect with our human imperfections? How quaint. I’m going with that.
Okay, I get it, they are saving $$. But why can’t they make different looking computer-generated bodies? I really think people would appreciate it! Come on, H&M!
Good point! I wonder about the models whose heads were used… what does THAT contract look like?!
That’s interesting! I think it makes a lot of sense to use computer-generated bodies. It makes the suits easier to compare and they don’t need to spend a lot of time editing photos or trying to get the models to pose the exact same way.
Three things.
1 Finally a little skin on this blog! And what about those Victoria Secret girls??? Surely they deserve to appear on your blog as well!

3 But really those hip bones poking out look a bit odd, like the models right hip is dislocated. If you imagine the body standing straight up I think that right side would be bulging out and she would walk like her right leg was 6 inches longer than her left…
