A Juice Refresher

I belly flopped into bed last night as soon as Zak walked through the door. When I woke a little while later as he was getting the girls ready for bed I realized it probably wasn’t just lack of sleep that had me feeling puny. I think I was probably fighting off that odd 12 hour bug Ava seemed to have on Wednesday too.

A 12 hour bug indeed I woke up this morning after 10 hours of sleep feeling almost normal. Nothing a run and some green juice couldn’t fix to get me all the way there. Although who am I kidding? I don’t think any amount of green juice is going to take me all the way to “normal”. Green juice in and of itself has me shooting well past the normal mark.

Run Like You Stole Something

Speed work was on the agenda for this morning. I was hungry but didn’t want to eat very much because the likelihood of puking on a run increases exponentially during a speed work session.

Newman's Own Organics Raisins

A small handful of raisins ought to be safe enough. It’s kind of hard see but my little pile of raisins were in my hand underneath the Newman’s Own Organics carton there. It’s almost as if the perfect portion just dropped right out of the bottom like magic. That would be really “handy”, wouldn’t it?

Just Beet It

Long run this morning – long for a week day anyway. I wanted to run 7 miles at my (hopeful) half marathon pace (less than three weeks baby!) Which meant anything less than 8:30/mile would make me happy.

I was easily able to maintain a 8:00/pace for the whole run, which I think was due in part to not having run for the last two days. 7 miles in 56:31 made me want jump up and down and say “Let’s have BEETS for breakfast this morning!”

So beets it was.

The Feather

I got up this morning thrilled to find we were back online almost business as usual, thanks to Zak working his late night his magic when he got home. It was like we had a visit from Internet Claus. After playing a little online catch up this morning I headed out for a run.

I ran just over 4 miles in about a half hour. It was such a refreshingly cool and comfortable morning I thought I’d take a cool down ride on my bike around the neighborhood.

Oats By Any Other Name

I set the alarm for 5:30 this morning so I could get out early and beat the heat. It was still dark I ended up tinkering around and didn’t get my butt out the door until 7.

I spent what felt like an hour sawing my slightly more ripe peach off it’s pit.

Hacked Peach

A muggy but not-too-hot run this morning for 6.24 miles in 53 minutes – just a nice and easy pace considering the distance and air thickness today.

Back home, Zak asked if I was going to make juice. I think he’s hooked.

Coffee! After my run! Wheeeee!

Coffee Morning

Thanks to a little big cup of coffee I was able to hold out for some granola to bake and add to my breakfast.

Granola

Sprinkling granola on top of overnight oats is the stuff dreams are made of.

Chocolate Overnight Oats

Yes, there really are overnight oats buried under Mt. Banana, Almond Butter River and Granola Land Mine.

Friday Snack Attack

Per our usual Friday routine, the girls went with Aunt Ellen today. I ran errands after dropping them off and was positively starving by the time I got home.

My latest trick – A LA Natalia Rose – is to snack on carrots while I prepare lunch/dinner if I’m really hungry. This keeps me from overeating when I finally do sit down to eat and it keeps me chewing my arm off or chewing anyone’s head off because I’m hungry and grumpy. Lucky for everyone, I was home alone and the only one who got his head chewed off was the carrot.

All this green juice has gone straight to my head, no?

I woke up sort of late this morning, after 6:30! Days are getting shorter + a new bedroom on the west side of the house = a room that isn’t filled with morning sun. Conclusion: I’m going to have to start setting the alarm.

This morning’s run was 5.28 miles at a comfortable pace, I was home again in 42 minutes. I had to listen to an old episode of Jillian Michael’s radio show this morning, I miss her wisdom.

Post run I busted out the rest of my cantaloupe from yesterday.

Get the Funk Out

August 11th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (13 Comments)

I awoke this morning feeling like I spent yesterday in a haze. I’m not sure what’s up but I am bound and determined to bust out of it today. Maybe because I hadn’t had green juice or run since Saturday? Not enough fresh fruit yesterday? Cooped up inside an air conditioned house and no sun on my skin? Well you can bet your hiney I’m checking all those things off my list today come hell or high water.

First things first, a perfectly ripe, sweet, juicy, organic white peach. Phew that’s a lot of adjectives for one innocent, delicious, little peach. Oh look, more adjectives.

Food for Thought

Since Zak is off this week and I had a bout of insomnia last night (coffee in the morning and caffeinated tea in the afternoon are my suspected culprits) I slept in this morning and headed out for my run around 8.

My workouts this week are going to be scheduled with a 5K this Saturday in mind. I’m hoping to beat my 5K PR (personal record) from this spring and run it faster than 23:21. Getting my runs in early this week so I can rest toward the end of the week and (hopefully) kick my own ass on Saturday.
