The Reset Button

You know how they say that making plans to work out with someone is a great way to make you sure you go? That was definitely the case for me this morning. I had my alarm set for 5:15 to meet my running buddy Shawn at the gym and run on the indoor track at 6:00. I turned my alarm off and laid back down for just a second and the next thing I know my cell phone is ringing downstairs, it’s 5:45 and I’m stumbling around in the dark rubbing sleep out of my eyes and jamming my toe on the suitcase that I’ve yet to put away.

I like to consider myself a reasonable parent. We practice gentle disciple and offer loving guidance. We encourage respect and the proper use of manners. I’ll eagerly honor requests when they are asked politely, in a sweet tone and especially when there’s something in it for me.

Maxine woke up in the middle of the night last night politely asking for water. Ava’s unconscious heard this request and she immediately woke up asking for water too. I was groggy but knew that there would be no going back to sleep until pint sized thirsts were quenched. I pulled myself out of bed and pressed my near sighted eyes to the bed side clock to see what time it was before stumbling downstairs to fetch two glasses of water.

Saturday Madness

A Saturday full of non-stop action!

I woke up this morning to a balmy 47 degrees and decided to post pone my bike ride for this afternoon when it was a bit warmer.

Instead I warmed my hands with a pot of green tea.

And warmed my soul with a bowl of banana chocolate fruit cereal.

Zak had plans this morning so I schlepped the girls into the car and we ran off to run some errands late morning into the early afternoon.

I hit the Thrive jackpot at the natural food store today!

Let’s Play Brendan Says

I’m still smiling after yesterday’s half marathon – even waking up with sore back muscles and quads, I think this smile is permanently affixed to my face for the next few days. Thanks for all the heart warming comments and congrats yesterday!

I got up early this morning to tend to things around the house. I’m loving this new routine, it’s working so well. I’m raring to go first thing in the morning and have been very productive in the early mornings recently.

Ready for my “Brendan Says” for today?

Identity Crisis

I’ve got a meeting tonight and will be home late, so today’s post is going to be wrapped up into a nice little bite of afternoon delight.

I woke up too early this morning. So early that I went back to bed at 5:30 hoping to fall back to sleep but it didn’t happen, so my day officially started somewhere in the 4 o’clock hour. I waited for the sun to come up and then hopped on my bike for a 34 minute therapy session. My mind turns as fast as my wheels when I’m on the bike. No iPod – it’s just me and the road. Well, just me minus the hundreds other people in their cars. Details.

Intuitive Eating Refresher

Today has totally felt like a Saturday. Monday? Really?

My little juice prank went off without a hitch this morning you’ll be glad to know. He’s a good sport and shares my crazy sense of humor. He laughed at the lid on the juice and said that it was definitely one joke that could have gone horribly wrong, but he would have been more sad over lost juice than a messy fridge.

After juice jokes, I changed into bike riding gear and had a little kiwi for a snack before heading out.

It’s Officially September

I was greeted with morning temps under 50 this morning! OK, OK, it’s September. I believe you! Now crank up the temp, it’s not fall yet.

Hello long sleeves, seems like just yesterday I had put you away for the season.

Long Sleeves

And oh yes, long pants, how could I forget about you too?

A quick pre-ride nosh of watermelon and off I went on my bike.

50 chilly minutes and 12 frozen finger miles later I was home to shower, make breakfast, pack lunches and get out the door!

A Short Story

August 26th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Morning Craziness - (24 Comments)

I woke this morning just as the sky was beginning to fade from the darkness of night to the shade of gray that precedes dawn. As the haze of unconscious lifted, I realized Zak was still lying in bed next to me. I nudged him gently with my elbow to ask him if he was planning to swim this morning at the lake or not. The color of the sky had led me to believe he’d overslept and wasn’t going to make it in time to join the other lake swimmers.

Sunday Rides

August 23rd, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (11 Comments)

After a long run yesterday, a Sunday Ride was in order for today. The weather man said it was supposed to rain this morning but fortunately he is A LIAR.  I rode 13.5 rain free miles this morning in just under an hour. In YO FACE Weather Mack Daddy!

On my ride I was thinking about how it seems like something has been “missing” lately. I couldn’t put my finger on it exactly, but something is definitely missing. *think*think*think*

And then it dawned on me.

I got up this morning thrilled to find we were back online almost business as usual, thanks to Zak working his late night his magic when he got home. It was like we had a visit from Internet Claus. After playing a little online catch up this morning I headed out for a run.

I ran just over 4 miles in about a half hour. It was such a refreshingly cool and comfortable morning I thought I’d take a cool down ride on my bike around the neighborhood.
