Seven Saturday Treats

November 28th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (10 Comments)

I have declared this Saturday
To be a day filled with treats!
Let’s get started with breakfast
and some yummy morning eats.

Enjoyed first thing
came Treat #1!
Fruit Cereal in peace
Well son of a gun!

Saturday Fruit Cereal

A diced sweet banana and a peeled D’Anjour pear
Tossed in ground flax seed with such ease and such care
Topped with a tablespoon of shriveled grapes and pumpkin seeds
Add a half cup of unsweetened almond milk, that’s what this needs!

Topped with Almond Milk

Post breakfast I was off
on a solo shopping trip
Treat #2 would be from Starbucks
for a hot beverage drip

I’m feeling a lot of pressure from this juicer giveaway – this isn’t going to be easy. I want to give a juicer to everyone! If you still want a chance to win my old juicer, you’ve got until tonight to leave a comment on yesterday’s post.

I’m still squealing with delight over foam-less juice. Foam didn’t really bother me before, but I think it looks much more appetizing with out it.

No Foam! Again!

Today’s vegetable juice contained a large beet, a carrot, a cucumber, 1/2 head of romaine lettuce, an apple and a lemon. The apple gives it the perfect amount of sweetness.

Fruit Cereal. Yummy Yummy.

Unless you’ve watched The Wiggles before, today’s title will be a little less meaningful for you. Go ahead click that link. You can come back and curse me later when you can’t get that song out of your head.

Today is a rest day. Tomorrow will be too. I’m resting my legs in preparation for 13 big ones on Sunday and I would be lying if I said I’m not grateful for the extra time two rest days will afford me.

I would also be lying if I said today’s fruit cereal didn’t make me drop to my knees and weep tears of unabashed joy.

No Rest for the Weary

September 2nd, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (19 Comments)

Today is a rest day. I swapped exercise this morning with work on my never ending to-do list. Over the years I’ve signed myself to volunteer for various non-profit groups and organizations – all in my quest to keep my brain from turning to mush as a stay at home mom. It’s all good, but sometimes things pile up and out of no where I realize I’ve got a million of things to do when all I’d really like to do is curl up into the fetal position with Halloween costume catalog and pretend my biggest concern is what Disney Princess I want to be for Halloween.

Continuing with today’s fruit for breakfast theme, I polished off a bunch of a cantaloupe as I got us packed up and ready to the head to the museum today.

This was also about the same time that Ava learned the internet was down.

Internet Down

I can totally relate, kid.

So off we went to the Museum of Play.

We played.

And waited for butterflies to land on our shadows.

Have I mentioned that my legs have grown longer? I think it’s all the green juice.

Perfect Monday

August 17th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (16 Comments)

Today is a planned rest day. I was tempted to take yesterday off but Zak wanted to swim early on Monday and go straight to work – meaning I wouldn’t be to run unless I got up well before 5. hahahahahyeahright. I pushed my rest day off until today and it worked out well for both of us.

I slept in this morning until about 6:45. After some time on the computer I cut into a not-quite-ripe peach. A little too much crunch, but still sweet.

The Classroom

Today the girls went with Ellen, giving Zak and I chance to remember what the other one’s voice sounded like without the typical screeching and classic interrupting. We talked about going out to eat, a movie, shopping… the afternoon was our child free oyster.

My bucket of watermelon held me over for a while, but without warning I realized how empty my stomach felt and I was going to go from hungry to starving in about .256 seconds if we didn’t get to a restaurant STAT.

To buy myself some time, I made a little banana mullet snack.

Lesson in Latin

I’m pretty sure Rest Day is Latin for Sit at Your Desk All Morning and Eat Watermelon Instead of Working Out cause that’s exactly all I’ve done so far today.

With a 5K tomorrow morning where I’m hoping to Whoop Serious Ass (Latin for –> Beat My Spring 5K PR of 23:21) I am resting my legs today with the plan to let the glycogen stores fill to the very brim and maybe even spill over.

And I’m way excited to introduce you to the newest contender in the Raw Food Rumble.

A totally soggy morning.

How convenient I’d planned for today to be a rest day.

Even the cats are taking it easy. Minus a little neck biting.

Maxine was up early. Only to fall back to sleep.

A leisurely breakfast cookie for me.

And coffee.

Time to lace up my shoes and get to work around this house. I can’t help but be reminded of my new favorite quote as I dig down to find the motivation to get moving:

Lazy Laundry Sunday

Call us crazy, but we don’t have cable television. When we moved into our house four years ago we decided we would just use old fashioned rabbit ears and skip cable to save some money. Let me be clear that this was not my idea, but I went with it.

Turns out it was one of the best things we ever did. We watch way less TV because of it, and the girls watch movies from the library or shows on PBS. I like that they aren’t subjected to the advertising on TV. With the new converter boxes the digital signal comes in crystal clear and we have a few more channels to boot.
