Today started with nice and easy 5.28 miles in just over 40 minutes.

While I was on my run, Zak picked breakfast from our tiny berry patch the backyard.

Those little red berries in the back are currants, there are also red raspberries, small cherries and some black raspberries hiding in the pile too.

Whoops! Lucky for you we’re vegetarian so you are pardoned Mr. Slug.

Zak and I ate fruit for breakfast together standing on the deck since the chairs were still wet from last nights rain. I busted out the watermelon for a little more pink.

Zak wanted to swim laps at the pool this morning so I was home with snoozing offspring and left to my own devices with a family room workout. I cranked out 45 minutes of cardio and resistance training a la 30 Day Shred, Levels 2 and 3, plus some extra push ups and planks just to make sure I was really suffering.

Sweaty and satisfied? Check. On to a spankin’ new breakfast.

Overnight Oatbran, an idea I stole borrowed from Homegirl Brooke and with a few clickety clicks realized it started with SnackFace Kailey.

Today is a rest day, as promised to myself yesterday. And what perfect timing, the old man was totally snoring when I woke up at 5:15. (i.e., it was pouring rain, did you catch that?)

Please note that I do usually NOT wake up this early in the winter. Or even spring or fall for that matter. When the sun is up and the children are sleeping I can’t help but bound out of bed and soak up the peace and quiet while it lasts. I love the extended daylight hours in the summer.

Flip It!

As usual, I was up before the rest of my crew this morning. I jumped on my bike and enjoyed this beautiful morning on a 70 minute, 15.3 mile ride. I am so grateful the warm air is here again.

Back home to find the house was still quiet. Ahhh. I enjoyed my breakfast cookie and coffee in peace. The silence was broken just as I was finishing up.

Little did they know I had a fun surprise in store for them this morning!

Listen to the Silence

Today is a rest day as planned. Although I’d like to believe I might squeeze in some yoga this afternoon, but I know how that goes. Translation: it usually doesn’t.

What is it with my gang waking up only to go back to sleep these last two days?

She actually had a low grade fever of 100 when she got up with me at 5:30 this morning. That’s just how the spit flies. Kids are so good at sharing the things you don’t want them to.

Be Happy! It’s Friday!

One might think that as a stay at home mom Friday would seem like any other day, weekend or not, and in some ways it is like any other day… but I can’t completely shake the Friday mentality that’s ingrained in us from early on. Of course I enjoy having Zak home for two days to help share the child rearing duties! And I enjoy his company too I suppose. 😉

Breakfast Paradise

No work out for me this morning, not an official one anyway. Today is a rest day but I still couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a short little leisurely ride on my bike to the corner grocery store. It’s such a perfectly sunny, cool morning! The banana hammock is empty and I need my bananas for breakfast.

I enjoyed coconut in my breakfast cookie so much yesterday I decided to add it in to today’s breakfast too.

June One

June 1st, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (5 Comments)

For the first day of June, it is a little chilly! 47 degrees at 6:30 called for a long sleeved shirt and capri tights for my 5.88 mile morning run. When I got home the girls were still asleep, which allowed Zak and I to have some uninterrupted conversation before he was on his way to work.

Memorial Day 2001

Memorial Day, 8 years ago, Zak and I were newly married and on our way to Aruba!

Memorial Day 2009? We cleaned the garage.  8 years.  Sounds about right.

On tonight’s dinner menu: black bean burgers with a side of kale chips.  McDonald’s ain’t got nothing on this version of burger and fries.

I first heard about Kale Chips on Fat Free Vegan, but she didn’t have much luck with them, so it wasn’t until I read Kath’s post about them that I finally tried them. If you’ve yet to discover kale chips, it’s about time you did!

Change in Plans

Last night I planned a nice long bike for first thing this morning. But someone decided they were going to get up with me at 5:30. I decided to make the most of it and invited that someone to come along with me in the bike trailer with an Ariel mug full of Heart to Heart and a travel cup of OJ. Still a little hesitant, I told her she could wear her 3 Sizes Too Small “flip flops” that she loves Oh So Much.

I had myself a deal!
