Life’s a Beach

My fruit and juice breakfast wore off by about 10:30, so I made a bowl of banana and chocolate oatbran before we headed out on today’s adventure.

Cooked on the stove with water and chocolate almond milk and cocoa powder. Topped with sliced banana, almond butter and coconut.

I threw a bunch of food into our lunch bag and off we went to meet some friends at the beach.

We played in the water.

We played in the sand.

I’m pretty sure taking a break for lunch was my idea.

What’s In a Name?

Just recently I told Ava that when I was pregnant with her, I wanted to name her Grace. Daddy wasn’t crazy about that name, and we eventually agreed on Ava. I also told her that I had first wanted Maxine to be named Leah, but that name was vetoed too.

Ava is often correcting me when I call her Ava saying “No, my name is _______”. Where _______ might be Zaza, Zandrea, Zander, Priscilla, and more recently, Leah. All sorts of stuffed cats, ponies and Barbies have recently taken on the name Leah as well.

Before my run this morning I dug into my stash of strawberries and blueberries that I snagged from the Farmer’s Market on Saturday.

Food combining rules say fresh fruit is supposed to be “eaten alone or leave it alone”. I have found that *just fruit* is the perfect pre-run/workout fuel. This works perfectly before a run because obviously my stomach is empty from the night before and when eaten alone fruit leaves the stomach in 30 minutes. (45 minutes for a banana.) It gives me a nice little energy boost and by the time I’m dressed and ready to hit the pavement I don’t have to worry about running on a full belly.

Last night I thought I might try to do my scheduled long run this morning, but the soreness in my shoulders and arms from yesterdays push ups and plank made me reconsider. I just wasn’t feeling up to it and figured I’d save my long run for Saturday or Sunday as planned and stick with a usual weekday run for today.

Before setting off, I consumed a reasonable sized portion of watermelon (as opposed to my normal watermelon attack) with my good friend Farmer Jed.

Zoo Day

After my physics review this morning, I ate my chocolate breakfast cookie in my underwear whilst running around the house like a mad woman trying to get kids dressed, lunches packed and get us out the door on time to meet my girlfriend Sharon and her gang.

That’s quite a picture I just painted. And one long sentence too.

We made it to the zoo dressed and only 5 minutes late!

We checked out our rhino pal friends.

Watched a bird show.

I’m starting to really wonder about my cat and his will to live.

With no work out yesterday I was more than ready to get out run this morning. An easy 4 in 33 minutes.

I came home to put together lunch for Zak and ate strawberries with reckless abandon for Breakfast Part I.

A short while later I was ready to make up for yesterday’s less than stellar bowl of cookie batter oats. Things had definitely improved today.

Lazy Laundry Sunday

Call us crazy, but we don’t have cable television. When we moved into our house four years ago we decided we would just use old fashioned rabbit ears and skip cable to save some money. Let me be clear that this was not my idea, but I went with it.

Turns out it was one of the best things we ever did. We watch way less TV because of it, and the girls watch movies from the library or shows on PBS. I like that they aren’t subjected to the advertising on TV. With the new converter boxes the digital signal comes in crystal clear and we have a few more channels to boot.

New Concepts

I’m still on the fence about running the Rochester Marathon this year, which is in mid September. I trained for it last year, but really it was all about just doing it AND I used it as motivation to have a guide and a schedule to make sure I was getting out there and exercising daily to help me stay on track with losing weight.

I am done teaching my kids how to do stuff for themselves.

I decided to forgo my morning out and ate my weight in watermelon instead.

Who needs to run when there are toys to pick up? Cherrios to be vacummed? Clothes to be folded? Dishes to be put away? More fruit to eat?

The girls are off with Saint Ellen today while I chip away at a self imposed to do list with approximately 167.25 items on it.

I love eating three part breakfasts. How come no one told me about this sooner?

Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order: 9:30 AM

All present: Yours truly.

New Business:

After my fruit buzz wore off this morning, I tried something new with oatmeal for Breakfast Part III.

Or I guess it really started last night.

I found oat groats at a local health food store and decided I’d try to make some oatmeal concoction with them.

I soaked oat groats, sliced almonds and a couple of chopped dates overnight in almond milk.

This is what it looked like this morning. Inedible, swollen oat groats (sounds like you need to see a doctor ma’am).
