New Groceries

I rarely buy books. I much prefer to spend my money on late fees at the library. I did buy Deep Nutrition because it’s not in our library system and b.) I need more than 3 weeks to get through most books these days. (I can read Goodnight Moon in about 3 minutes flat though. Just saying.)

When I bought Deep Nutrition, I also bought The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth because hello, free supersaver shipping! And b.) I get this dorky smile on my face whenever I read the myriad of awesome things that good foods can do for our bodies.

A Salad Rut

OK you salad lovers out there, riddle me this:

What do you do when you are sick of salad?

One possibility? Stop eating salad for a while. That’s what I’ve been doing lately. Skipping salad and getting greens elsewhere. Like slipping them into egg quesadillas, green smoothies or shoving them through the juicer.

But then other day I went out for pizza with a friend and had a side Caesar salad and you know what?

It was good. Real good.

This made me realize I just need to change things up a bit. Variety! It’s the spice of life, oui?

A clean refrigerator feels really good.

A Clean Fridge

Like a sneeze, only better.

I just cleaned out my fridge (and I just sneezed). It wasn’t even that bad (the fridge), but I can’t deny that it looks and feels pretty amazing now that I’m done. Putting away groceries was an extremely pleasurable, mind blowing, out-of-body experience.

(ok, I admit it.  I’m trying to make this post climactic.)

Sometimes eating better is more about what you don’t buy as compared to what you do buy.  One trick to making healthier food choices more frequently is to simply stop buying unhealthy foods in first place.  That might sound painfully obvious or maybe it feels absolutely impossible – but if you can manage to leave these foods at the store, it works like a charm for a few reasons:

1. It’s much easier to resist temptation at the grocery store.

Especially if you eat before you shop.

Let Us Give Thanks

November pretty much marks the end of bike riding season for me – as it should.  That’s when it starts getting really cold and blowy and sucky around here.  It’s also when I start giving thanks for turtlenecks, gloves and more importantly, new Y memberships that mean a winter full of heated pools and yoga classes.

So, one last bike ride yesterday for the year.

And a little thank you to my Armadillo puncture resistant tires.

Party in the park!

kids

We had fun at the park today with rulers and colored pencils learning about vertical lines, horizontal lines, diagonal lines, and the different kind of shapes we can make with these lines. Good stuff.

Maxine wants to hear that last bit on “vertical lines” one more time though.

We worked on our balance and poise a bit too.

Running short on time, I threw everything portable I had into a bag before we ran out the door. We had a small lunch at the park, lets call this Lunch Part I.
