It Is My Duty

I keep waiting for the watermelon to stop tasting so good –

Watermelon

but alas, that time has yet to come. I guess I’ll just have to keep testing the watermelons until I’m sure watermelon season is over. It is my duty.

So as luck would have it my mom had a technological snow day of sorts and was able to leave work early – thus I was able to get my run checked off the to-do list much earlier than I anticipated.

Midday sun + warm but not too hot air + slight breeze = perfect running weather.  It was my duty to run.

A Juice Refresher

I belly flopped into bed last night as soon as Zak walked through the door. When I woke a little while later as he was getting the girls ready for bed I realized it probably wasn’t just lack of sleep that had me feeling puny. I think I was probably fighting off that odd 12 hour bug Ava seemed to have on Wednesday too.

A 12 hour bug indeed I woke up this morning after 10 hours of sleep feeling almost normal. Nothing a run and some green juice couldn’t fix to get me all the way there. Although who am I kidding? I don’t think any amount of green juice is going to take me all the way to “normal”. Green juice in and of itself has me shooting well past the normal mark.

Fun from the Shower

This morning I fired up a yogadownload podcast and did 45 minutes of Yoga for Runners. Holy boats and standing splits this is a challenging class! But it’s all good. I will be visiting this class again for sure.

I know I’ve had too much to eat the night before when I’m barely noticing hunger after 9 o’clock the following morning. Or maybe those corn cakes just have some incredible staying power!

I cut up a pear to nosh on before hopping in the shower – I’ve got a lunch date today!

Friday Snack Attack

August 14th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Life - (13 Comments)

Per our usual Friday routine, the girls went with Aunt Ellen today. I ran errands after dropping them off and was positively starving by the time I got home.

My latest trick – A LA Natalia Rose – is to snack on carrots while I prepare lunch/dinner if I’m really hungry. This keeps me from overeating when I finally do sit down to eat and it keeps me chewing my arm off or chewing anyone’s head off because I’m hungry and grumpy. Lucky for everyone, I was home alone and the only one who got his head chewed off was the carrot.

The Fountain of Youth

It’s crazy me with my crazy green juice again.

Crazy Me

I was thinking this morning about why I drink this juice most mornings of the week. I want to be fit and healthy, but I also want to hold on to my remaining shreds of youth for as long as I can.

Why I’m trying to get this young coconut open, you see.

This is my second young coconut. Getting these things open is no small task. Considering the ones in my bra aren’t so young anymore I was inspired to try, try again. And a special thanks to Linda for additional inspiration and her fabulous idea to use a mallet instead of trying to cut this thing open with an axe and keeping my hand behind my back to ensure “I don’t lose it”, as Natalia Rose would say.

Intuitive Fruit Dehydrating Yoga

August 10th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (24 Comments)

I found the instructions for my food dehydrator online and got to work this morning.

As instructed, I soaked sliced bananas in lemon juice for a few minutes before placing them on the tray.

Two trays of these guys.

Sliced up and cored a red delicious apple, soaked in lemon juice and onto the tray they went.

And a kiwi tray. Peeled, but not soaked.

All that fruit slicing – call me crazy – I went ahead ate a hydrated kiwi with reckless abandon. I’m a wild woman.

Day Numero Four with no early morning work out. Zak gets home tonight. Hallelujah.

My morning green lemonade in a tall, tall glass.

In the Tall, Tall Grass.

Egads you can’t even tell how tall that glass is when it sinks into the grass! Someone write “Mow Lawn” on the to do list.

OK, OK, in truth the grass just grows really tall in that one spot and worked well for a reference to an old favorite. Don’t go calling the housing association on me just yet.

Zoo Day

After my physics review this morning, I ate my chocolate breakfast cookie in my underwear whilst running around the house like a mad woman trying to get kids dressed, lunches packed and get us out the door on time to meet my girlfriend Sharon and her gang.

That’s quite a picture I just painted. And one long sentence too.

We made it to the zoo dressed and only 5 minutes late!

We checked out our rhino pal friends.

Watched a bird show.

Yes Maxine, do you have a question?

Out the door first thing this morning for a 4.2 mile run in 34 minutes. I took it easy and just enjoyed a jaunt around the neighborhood. A perfectly cool, sunny morning with my girlfriend Jillian.

Once I got home to find everyone still sleeping, I decided to take a cool down ride and rode the long way to my little grocery store to pick up coffee knowing we were out. After I read Master Your Metabolism a few months ago and along with listening to Jillian talk on and on about the pesticides that conventionally grown coffee beans are covered in, I decided it was worth it to make the switch to organic.
