Scary Spoon

Dark, dark, DARK. The mornings are so dark! Come on daylight savings time – Mama’s ready to set the clocks back!

On my bike first thing this morning to ride – in the dark yet again – to the gym to pay my respects to the treadmill. I even dug out my reflective vest to wear on the way there today too.

Flash photography: Friend or Foe?

Foe. Definitely foe.

If I’m going to run on the treadmill and be a rat on the wheel for 30 minutes, I feel like I have no choice but to run sprint intervals to keep things interesting.

Run for Breakfast

October 26th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (20 Comments)

I had a real breakfast crisis on my hands this morning:

Empty banana hammock.

Empty Banana Hammock

No milk.

No Milk

Well, I guess that’s not exactly true. There was rice milk that Ava drinks… but umm, in a word – no.

Surely I jest – of course this is far from a real breakfast crisis. But I realized I could remedy this situation with a well planned run this morning.

I took the last couple of bucks out of my wallet, stuffed them into my sports bra and planned my route so I would run about 3 and a half miles and end up at the my little neighborhood grocery store before the final half mile trek home.

No Run, No Guilt

It’s been a little warmer these past few days, so I planned to run outside this morning. Unfortunately by the time it was light out and I had my act in gear, Zak had to put the kibosh on my run to leave something called work.

Fine, I guess you can go to work.

What to do – what to do? Leave sleeping children unattended or find something to do at home? OK, OK get out the yoga mat.

45 minutes of gentle hatha yoga and what was supposed to be 20 minutes of sun salutations turned 5 minutes due to a couple interruptions and then derailed altogether by a growling stomach.

My body alarm was apparently set for 6:00 this morning, because that’s the exact minute my eyes popped open with no alarm to be heard.

I debated going to the gym first thing (Door #1) or waiting until the sun came up and going for a run outside (Door #2). After going to the gym on Monday and was reminded of how great it feels to get there early and get my work out in first thing, so I opted for what was behind Door #1.

Turn It Up

A typical Friday morning, a typical Friday morning run. I considered waiting to run until this afternoon since the girls will be off with Aunt Ellen for the day, but the blasted weather man is calling for rain so I went out early to beat feet to beat the rain drops.

Today when I was cruising along to a playlist instead of a podcast or audio book, I remembered something Brendan Brazier talks about in Thrive.

Banana Nut Balls for Breakfast

September 30th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (17 Comments)

I took yesterday off from exercise so a run was in order first thing this morning. A quickie 4 miles in about a half hour, home to whip up an Averie inspired breakfast.

I think I need to send Cuisinart a thank you note because I use my food processor almost every day. Or maybe they should send me a thank you note for featuring my food processor on the blog almost everyday. YOU’RE WELCOME CUISINART!

Tea Time

I was on the fence about running this morning since I ran yesterday, but then it was decided for me when Maxine woke up early. I spent the time getting caught up with all things house and life instead. It’s amazing how just straying from the norm for a few days throws everything out of whack.

When I felt ready for something to eat I whipped up a bowl of fruit cereal. But today, I had the GOOD prunes. That’s right, the good prunes. I’m joining Holly in the kingdom of g-ma’s and I’m proud of it.

Identity Crisis

September 9th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (24 Comments)

I’ve got a meeting tonight and will be home late, so today’s post is going to be wrapped up into a nice little bite of afternoon delight.

I woke up too early this morning. So early that I went back to bed at 5:30 hoping to fall back to sleep but it didn’t happen, so my day officially started somewhere in the 4 o’clock hour. I waited for the sun to come up and then hopped on my bike for a 34 minute therapy session. My mind turns as fast as my wheels when I’m on the bike. No iPod – it’s just me and the road. Well, just me minus the hundreds other people in their cars. Details.

Thrive Inspired

I was able to make some progress with Thrive while the girls played in the water and the sand yesterday afternoon. I was excited to put a lot of his principals into practice today with a long run planned for this morning.

My friend Shawn has decided to run the half marathon (13.1 miles) with me next weekend and we made plans to run long together this morning. I set the alarm for 5:15 so I would be ready to go when he arrived at 6.

Intuitive Fruit Dehydrating Yoga

I found the instructions for my food dehydrator online and got to work this morning.

As instructed, I soaked sliced bananas in lemon juice for a few minutes before placing them on the tray.

Two trays of these guys.

Sliced up and cored a red delicious apple, soaked in lemon juice and onto the tray they went.

And a kiwi tray. Peeled, but not soaked.

All that fruit slicing – call me crazy – I went ahead ate a hydrated kiwi with reckless abandon. I’m a wild woman.
