A NEAT Morning

November 20th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Healthy Habits - (11 Comments)

Given that yesterday was our Stay At Home day, I decided to take the girls car seats out of the car to wash the covers. Upon removing the Britax Beasts, I discovered they were harboring a small community of broken crayons, cheerios and Kashi granola bar crumb fugitives.

So this morning instead of running past the car wash like I do day after day, I thought my carseat-less vehicle could use a little quality time with the vacuum before I spent a half hour reinstalling the seats.

Stay at Home

Today I am taking my title as Stay At Home Mom quite literally and we are not going anywhere today. No. Where.

Well, I did go for a run but that doesn’t count. I didn’t schlep children in and out of the car, carry arm loads of extra clothes, snacks, toys, mail, papers and shoes out the door with me, so really it doesn’t feel like I’ve gone anywhere at all.

On my didn’t-go-anywhere run, my lovely albeit slightly boring digital watch told me I was gone for 36 minutes. My inner GPS says I probably went about 4 and a half miles.

When the Garmin Strikes Midnight

One more run with my borrowed Garmin 405 this morning before it turns back into a pumpkin. Well, maybe not a pumpkin exactly but they will charge my debit card $350 if I don’t bring it back today. I don’t know about you but that’s more than I want to spend on a pumpkin.

Oh Garmin stats, it’s been fun.

Tuesday Morning Garmin Run

A frosty 27 degrees this morning but with running tights, turtle neck, light jacket, gloves and a hat that I knit myself I was warmed up and comfortable by the first half mile.

A Nice and Easy 9

November 14th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (10 Comments)

Having started last Saturday with a fast 7 miles, I decided this Saturday would be another long run – but this one at a comfortable pace and maybe a little further. Matt’s post on Stu Mittleman got me revved up for an enjoyable long run and today was the day.

I wasn’t sure exactly how far I was going to go this morning, and decided to play it by ear. First things first though, a MamaBite while loading the dishwasher multi-tasking.

Come on coconut oil, show me what you got!

Decided For Me

November 13th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (14 Comments)

My morning activity was decided for me today when I let Maxine cry just a little too long hoping she’d fall back to sleep.  She did fall back to sleep once I laid down with her a few minutes, but Zak did not fall back to sleep – and thus deciding to go into work early, leaving me to find something to do at home on this chilly fall morning.

Time to roll out the yoga mat.

Zak off to work + quiet house + 45 minutes of Yoga for Runners (my legs are still feeling shaky) + hot shower = time for breakfast.

Glitter

Now this is what I call a real salad.

A Real Salad

I guess I’ll just have to be my own fruit and salad company. You know what they say! If you want something done right you just have to do it yourself. Can do.

We kept ourselves busy today, both in and out of the kitchen.

Let’s make more MamaBars!

Let's Make Banana Bites

Let’s make something with glitter! *insert insane shrieking here* ANYTHING WITH GLITTER! Let’s make it! Gliiittteeerrrrrrrrrr…

I’m not so sure though that the “do it yourself” cliche applies to Christmas ornaments. Some things really are better store-bought.

A Real Rest Day

November 11th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (14 Comments)

I declared Monday a rest day and then went and proceeded to rake and haul leaves for more than three hours, making Monday anything but a rest day.

Today though, is really going to be a rest day. After two days of non-stop action, this house is most definitely showing signs of neglect and lots of comings and goings… why do I feel so stressed when the house is a mess? Is it because stress and mess rhyme? Probably.

It must have been a sign from above that the Garmin 405 was picked up with a dead battery and needs to be recharged.

A Day of Calorie Counting

November 4th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Motivation - (23 Comments)

Today’s day of calorie counting began with a freezing bike ride to the gym. Well, actually it was 33 degrees so I guess it wasn’t exactly freezing. I’m such an exaggerator sometimes.

30 minutes on the treadmill with some speed work intervals (4 two minute sets at 9.3) thrown in to keep things interesting – a total of about 4 miles. I noted today what the calorie total said and it was about 450.

Treadmill dues paid, followed by a Very Cold (but this time welcome!) ride home for my first calories of the day.

Manly Time Change

November 2nd, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (13 Comments)

I woke up this morning at 5:45 4:45. Early (yikes) but I loved that I was able to go for my run in the LIGHT at 6:30!

For fall/winter running, I’ll agree to run outside if 2 out of 3 criteria are met:

1.) Warm
2.) Dry
3.) Light

Scenario A: If it’s raining (lightly) but warm? OK.

Scenario B: If it’s light out and cold? Sure.

Scenario C: Dark and cold but dry? Not my favorite but I’ll do it.

Scenario D: If it’s dark and wet and cold? Deal breaker.

A Halloween Run

October 31st, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (13 Comments)

I had the most fabulous run this morning!

But this fabulous run actually started yesterday – with an innocent homeschooling Halloween party where Mama went as a Dirty Hippy and Maxine went as a ballerina.

The Dirty Hippy and the Prima Ballerina

I don’t know that this was much of a stretch from how we dress day to day, but whatever.

There were lots of fun treats and goodies.

Pumpkin Rice Krispy Treat

Including some Mama Averie inspired raw donut holes, available in both chocolate and pumpkin.

Lots of fun games and activities too.
