Lunch Lately

January 10th, 2013 | Posted by Alison Spath in Lunch - (8 Comments)

Today I’m here with a couple of my recent lunch time regulars.

Some days I eat lunch all by myself. When the big kids are at an afternoon class and the baby is napping, I get to eat late lunch in peace and quiet with just myself and maybe a literary friend too. I’m re-reading (/ skimming) The Primal Blueprint – I’m finding it more relevant now that I’m eating meat again.

Turkey Burger Lunch

A turkey burger with provolone on top of greens, shredded carrot and celery tossed in olive oil and balsamic. I am now one of those people who eats their burger without a bun. Some of the time, anyway.

Slow Then Fast Food

As we were first settling into our new life as a family of five, there was a lot of snack food consumption going on around here. Pretzels, granola bars, tortilla chips, crackers… I loaded our cupboards with quick and easy foods because well, they were quick and easy. I stuck with foods that weren’t awful, but I wouldn’t classify them as The World’s Healthiest Foods either.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. We were fortunate to have friends and family bring us plenty of meals in those early weeks, but it’s possible there were afternoons where we had air popped popcorn and graham crackers smeared with almond butter for lunch.

This American Life

A couple of days ago I went for my first run in a long, LONG time. The log from my Garmin tells me my last run was in early January, so that means it’s been nearly 7 months since I’ve done much more than walk for exercise.

Overall, it went well!  I was able to run for about 3/4 of a mile before it started to feel uncomfortable.  I pushed myself to get to the one mile mark before slowing to a walk.  I then walked/ran the next two miles before returning home.

How to Froth Milk at Home

July 19th, 2012 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast - (14 Comments)

Whenever we get coffee from a coffee shop, I always get a Cafe Au Lait. I love the steamed milk in my cup, it’s just so… steamy. And frothy. And foamy. And seemingly impossible to reproduce at home without some giant, loud frothing machine.

During pregnancy, I totally lost my taste for coffee. But thanks to (very lovingly) popping this kid out, my taste for coffee is BACK, yo! And as luck would have it, a number of weeks ago I happened upon this post about making milk foam at home without a fancy schmancy milk steamer, and I couldn’t wait to try it.

is a HE!

Allow me introduce our newest addition, Baby Casimir!

Weed Number 3

Casimir, who shall also be known as Kaz, is the little man who has filled our hearts to the very brim with gratitude and love. He made his grand entrance on Thursday morning, June 28th (via VBA2C, 10 days after his due date!) weighing in at 8 lbs 14 oz and 22 1/2 inches long.

Just a quick post to announce that he’s here! We are getting settled into our new life as a family of five, I’m off now to eat, sleep, nurse, repeat.
