So Happy Together

Barely 24 hours after publishing my review on Born to Run and remarking on the theory that the more expensive your running shoe, the more likely you are to incur an injurya theory I think is right on the money no less – I ran out and spent $80 on running “shoes”. Vibram Five Finger Sprints!

Hypocrisy thy name is Alison.

But CHECK THEM OUT!

And I Love. Them.

Pushing Up Pansies

June 29th, 2010 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (10 Comments)

Well, it’s that time of year. The time when I start hemming and hawing about what I’m going to train for this summer: the half marathon or the full marathon. Last year I considered running the full marathon again but then bailed mid summer. I instead opted for the half with the excuse that I’d never run a half marathon before, conveniently weaseling my way out of a summer of 20 mile long runs.

New House Firsts

January 23rd, 2010 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (12 Comments)

So I’ve got a couple of note worthy new house “firsts” to mention today.

1. Run the recycling bin out the curb barefoot and in my too-thin-for-29-degrees pajamas at 7:35 AM

Oh sure, I’ve done this plenty of times before at the old house, but yesterday was the first time I did this at our new house.

It’s a classic tale really, it goes a little something like this:

Not Thanksgiving

December 19th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (18 Comments)

It’s not Thanksgiving, but that doesn’t mean I can’t give some thought to all the things I’m thankful for these days.

I’m thankful for kids that are too big to fit down the laundry chute.

I’m grateful that the little one who I worry COULD possibly fit down there played at the downstairs laundry chute location that is three feet off the floor.

I’d like to give thanks for salad and what a portable meal it can be. Thank you Gladware for making lunch possible at my new home away from home, while taking a little unpacking break before heading home to get ready for an evening out.

Treadmill Fantasies

December 11th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (23 Comments)

Last night I got to thinking about how much I enjoyed my treadmill run earlier that morning. It was actually really nice and I got a great run in without freezing my face off in the bitter cold wind and snow. This is slightly amusingly to me because I use to detest the dreadmill and felt like it was more of a torture device than a piece of workout equipment.

I think it might be possible that the treadmill is starting to grow on me.

Seven Saturday Treats

November 28th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (10 Comments)

I have declared this Saturday
To be a day filled with treats!
Let’s get started with breakfast
and some yummy morning eats.

Enjoyed first thing
came Treat #1!
Fruit Cereal in peace
Well son of a gun!

Saturday Fruit Cereal

A diced sweet banana and a peeled D’Anjour pear
Tossed in ground flax seed with such ease and such care
Topped with a tablespoon of shriveled grapes and pumpkin seeds
Add a half cup of unsweetened almond milk, that’s what this needs!

Topped with Almond Milk

Post breakfast I was off
on a solo shopping trip
Treat #2 would be from Starbucks
for a hot beverage drip

Last night after Zak got home I showed him my butt and how high it was from the floor (one inch) and begged for him to handle bedtime by himself and let me off the hook to slither into bed 9pm.

This, my friends, is why it’s almost 10am and I am typing this post in complete silence. When mom’s away, the children will play… with dad… until very, very late at night. I have no idea what time they went to bed (I didn’t ask) but they are still sleeping and I am not complaining.

So anyway.

I was feeling totally cold and lazy early this morning and not feeling my exercise mojo at all. But then the sun came up and the sky was just a little too clear, the air a little too crisp. It’s probably the very last of the gorgeous weekends we’ve got in store for us until spring and I couldn’t just sit here and let it pass me by.

Except the fates had other plans for me.

FLAT

Barely 2 miles in and I hear that all too familiar and none too welcome rubber-on-rubber sound effect. BLAAAAHHH.

Run for Breakfast

October 26th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness - (20 Comments)

I had a real breakfast crisis on my hands this morning:

Empty banana hammock.

Empty Banana Hammock

No milk.

No Milk

Well, I guess that’s not exactly true. There was rice milk that Ava drinks… but umm, in a word – no.

Surely I jest – of course this is far from a real breakfast crisis. But I realized I could remedy this situation with a well planned run this morning.

I took the last couple of bucks out of my wallet, stuffed them into my sports bra and planned my route so I would run about 3 and a half miles and end up at the my little neighborhood grocery store before the final half mile trek home.
