I think the best thing about days where I only drink green juice and eat fruit until lunch (a la Natalia Rose and The Raw Food Detox Diet) might possibly be banana whip as part of this complete breakfast.

Yay Banana Whip

And watermelon. But you knew that.

For lunch I was figuring out what to have with my salsa and carrots. I whipped up some garlic hummus and did my open faced sandwich thing.

But first let me say that we love, love, love this brand of salsa.

After my HFCS tirade this morning, I made some green juice that I enjoyed with live entertainment.

Pre-meeting Juice

I continue to be amazed at how satisfying green lemonade is.

I also continued to be amazed at how long a yellow, slippery piece of plastic can keep a child entertained.

I had a meeting to go to for one of the classes Ava attends as a homeschooler this afternoon. I ate a banana on my way but only have an empty shell of a banana to show for it.

A formal complaint was filed today about the lack of cooked food in this house. Zak asked if I would do some more cooking again “like I use to”. Oops. OK, ok. Noted. But this request gave me pause to reflect.

Do you know what my New Years Resolution was? Stop over committing myself. I have not done that all. Completely the opposite actually.

I recently heard someone say “If you have 40 priorities, then you have none.” That’s me. I have too many priorities. I take on too much and before I know it the things that are supposed to be at the top of the list get lost in the shuffle and I can’t give ANYTHING my best effort because I’m spreading myself too thin.

It's a Wrap

I sat down to lunch this afternoon after I finished up the last 25% of our lawn that I didn’t get to yesterday.

More marinated portobellos on a bed of greens tossed in my Ginger Miso dressing.

After lunch I set out on a bike ride to run some errands and get in a little unofficial exercise too. Want to go with me? Let’s roll.

First up, the post office about 1 mile away, to mail a package and a letter.

Next, the library, about 4 miles from the Post Office,

The Raw Food Detox Diet

July 5th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Good Reads - (11 Comments)

I finished The Raw Food Detox Diet while we were up north with Zak’s family at their cottage for the holiday weekend.

This was the only food picture I took all weekend!

kombucha

I’ve seen this in my local health food stores but have never been interested in trying it. I rarely buy drinks when we are out, I usually only bring my own water. But after seeing this on many raw food blogs, I was feeling a little “rawdy” when I saw it at a new health food store we stopped at on the way up north on Friday.

White Gloves and Basset Hounds

This one’s for you MJ.

You don’t know the lengths I had to go to for this pic.

First, I had to dig out the white glove from the bin of winter stuff.

Then I had to set the timer on my camera.

THEN I had to hold the camera between my chin and my chest.

That’s how much of a Michael Jackson fan I am. Rest in peace dude.

Now how do I segue into the YoBaby giveaway winner? I guess I’ll just jump right in.

Momcation

June 19th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Good Reads - (8 Comments)

As much as I wanted to run this morning, I have to make today a rest day because I’m leaving on a little Momcation for the weekend and have a TON to do this morning before I leave.

1. Cook

a. garbanzo beans for hummus
b. two days worth of overnight oats

2. Clean

3. Laundry

4. Pack!

a. Books
b. Running Sneakers
c. Everything else

Part II of the *cough*REAL*cough* reason for a rest day is because I am hobbling around like an old lady thanks to Jillian and her work on my Trouble Zones yesterday. The chair squat gods are pointing and laughing at me.

Lettuce Go On a Date

You know how you get a new car, and then suddenly it seems like everyone everywhere is driving the same car, when in the past you’d barely even noticed said car?

Well that seems to be the case for making snacks with dates too.

Date siting #1

It all started innocently enough with Elizabeth’s post on date bars. They looked amazing and on my next trip to the grocery store I bought a pound of medjool dates.

Date siting #2

Then came Mary’s post two days later on making her own Larabars, and the wheels in my head continued to turn.

The Skinny

The Skinny: On Losing Weight without Being Hungry-the Ultimate Guide to Weight Loss Success by Dr. Louis J. Aronne and Alisa Bowman.

The Skinny. Another book with skinny in the title. It practically leapt off the shelf and into my hands at the library while perusing the New Books section. I actually picked this one up a few weeks ago but was thinking about it on my run this morning and wanted to write about it.

Skinny Bitch

I finished Skinny Bitch, by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin this weekend. This book is for anyone looking for a good bitch slap about their eating, drinking, smoking, processed food, sugar, meat and dairy eating addictions. There wasn’t really anything in this book that was new to me, but it definitely reaffirmed my choice to be vegetarian and made me think more about my dairy consumption. Did I mention the authors are both vegan and that’s the diet they are advocating for? Oh yeah, sorry. The authors are both vegan and they advocate a vegan diet.
