Zoo Day

July 16th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (8 Comments)

After my physics review this morning, I ate my chocolate breakfast cookie in my underwear whilst running around the house like a mad woman trying to get kids dressed, lunches packed and get us out the door on time to meet my girlfriend Sharon and her gang.

That’s quite a picture I just painted. And one long sentence too.

We made it to the zoo dressed and only 5 minutes late!

We checked out our rhino pal friends.

Watched a bird show.

Yes Maxine, do you have a question?

More Experiments

July 15th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (7 Comments)

I didn’t really intend for today to be a day full of experiments, but who doesn’t want to want to be a their own lab rat? I mean really.

We met our friends at the park and had a neat activity planned that all the kids loved, including mine.

Clear as mud, no?

We had a to walk around the playground and find the shapes drawn in the upper left corner of each box. Then the bottom two boxes were for any other shapes we found.

Cigarette butt? Ummm, I think that’s a tube? Yeah, draw a tube.

A Few Hints

We had a great day at the children’s museum today, despite having all the children of the city there to join us. It rained all day and apparently we weren’t the only ones who had the brilliant idea to find something fun to do indoors today.

I’ll spare you the 100 photographs I took and instead share just a few of my favorites.

First up!

Guess who tied this shoe?? (Hint: NOT ME!)

Curried Lentil Burgers

June 24th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (10 Comments)

My day was quite productive! Mainly due to this:

My poor honey was still feeling pretty puny this morning, she got up only to come downstairs and sleep all morning.

Maxine enjoyed her freedom and ruled the roost!

After my productive morning, I got down to the business of dinner. At lunch time.

I told Zak I was going to make lentil burgers for dinner tonight. I make homemade veggie burgers all the time but have yet to try them with lentils. He said curry might be good in them, so I went with it!

Pantry Dinner

We hit a new park and playground today, to meet up with some homeschooling friends for a Summer Solstice gathering after lunch. Ava drove us there.

And then if letting her drive wasn’t enough, she tested my adrenal glands again.

OK so it wasn’t really THAT high but I did find myself holding my breath until she got to the top.

Up Top

Blood pressure returning to normal.

We hit the grocery store for a few essentials (OATS!!) and they entertained themselves in their usual fashion while we went through checkout.

You’ll Drool Too

A lunch time mess.

But worth it for a masterpiece!

I mean come on, would you scold Michelangelo about paint brushes and paint cans everywhere as he painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel? Would you tell Da Vinci to “clean as he goes” while he worked on the Mona Lisa?

I think not.

I had this for a little protein and Vitamin C(hocolate), to help me power through clean up.

These (that can be seen in the background above) have been soaking since the early AM.

What a Crock

For lunch today I made one of my favorite salads.

Red leaf lettuce, spinach, 3/4 of a large Gala apple, chopped (I ate the other 1/4 while I prepped) some tomato and basil feta cheese, cubes of extra firm tofu and a few cashews.

Everything into a large bowl, then I added 2 Tbsp of this amazing Miso dressing.

Cover and then shake like a Polaroid picture.

Lentil Chili

June 1st, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (6 Comments)

For lunch today I threw together some refried beans quesadillas.  Spicy refried beans smeared into a flat out wrap, sliced tomatoes, corn and a little bit of white cheddar cheese. I also made some kale chips to use up the last of my bag of kale and for a little green on the side.

Served 2% Fage, salsa and avocado slices.

And for dinner tonight, Lentil Chili was on the menu.

May 29th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (7 Comments)

1. Once the girls are on their way with Aunt Ellen, go for a 4.18 mile run in 32:13, so your pace average pace is 7:42

2. Come home and do some body weight exercises

3. Chain self to desk for remainder of afternoon

4. Go ahead and break for lunch around 1:00

5. Make a gigantic salad with red leaf, spinach, carrots, cukes, red pepper and tofu chunks.

6. When it starts getting close to dinner time, unchain self from desk and get started with dinner.

Vegetable Frittatas

May 28th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (6 Comments)

As an oat lover, I usually end up making eggs for meals other than breakfast. Today I made Veggie Frittatas for dinner.

Ingredients:
1 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
5 or 6 eggs
1/4 c of milk (optional)
1/4 c of cheese (optional)
Vegetables of your choosing
Salt and pepper to taste

In a large pan, saute vegetables on medium heat in EVOO until soft. I used what I had on hand; onions, garlic, mushrooms, red pepper and spinach.

Because the spinach cooks fast, I got the other veggies started and held off on the spinach until everything else had softened up.
