Fast Food

My three course breakfast did good by me today. Real good.

I was feeling slightly hungry when I made the girls lunch, I snacked on my favorite snacky snackerson as of late.

Carrots and Salsa

And a couple of banana chips too.

After my attempt at banana chips last week we’ve been living banana chip loco here. Even Maxine, also known as Queen of Banana Denial, will eat these. Score one for Team Banana!

Stay At Home Thursday

This morning I was ready to whip out my young coconut meat. Although that might be misconstrued as something inappropriate for those under 18, really it’s just me getting the scraped out guts of my young coconut from yesterday out of the refrigerator. Sorry to burst your dirty mind bubble.

Let's make mama a smoothie

I first learned about the wonder of young coconuts from The Raw Food Detox Diet.

Sun of a Beach

A little beach trip with some friends was in order for today, so we threw lunch in a bag this morning and off we went.

Beach Today

Lunch for mom? Leftovers.

Veggie Chili Leftovers

Plus a Jocalat Larabar.

And some Newman’s Own Organics Honey Wheat pretzels from our goodie box for sharing.

Snack and Share

While practically all the Newman’s Own Organics loot we were sent to try has been fabulous, I have to say these weren’t that great. Not BAD, but just – weird. Maxine spit hers out and a seagull ate it.  The seagull had no complaints.

Intuitive Fruit Dehydrating Yoga

August 10th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (24 Comments)

I found the instructions for my food dehydrator online and got to work this morning.

As instructed, I soaked sliced bananas in lemon juice for a few minutes before placing them on the tray.

Two trays of these guys.

Sliced up and cored a red delicious apple, soaked in lemon juice and onto the tray they went.

And a kiwi tray. Peeled, but not soaked.

All that fruit slicing – call me crazy – I went ahead ate a hydrated kiwi with reckless abandon. I’m a wild woman.

New Friends

August 9th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (17 Comments)

Hello. Meet my lunch.

Simple Sandwich

A delectable vegetable sandwich on scrumptious toasted Ezekiel seven grain bread with a smattering of homemade two-day-old guacamole, freshly sliced tomatoes and store bought, hand washed fresh from the fridge romaine lettuce.

Side View

My sandwich has a friend I’d like you to meet too.

A mumbo jumbo plate of steamed cauliflower, shredded carrots and zucchini steamed in only the finest tap water this side of the Mississippi, topped with the Parmesaniest cheese this side of Wegmans.

Plate O'Veggies

Hey. Kid. Get your fingers out of my food. I’m trying to do introductions here.

In Parenthesis

August 5th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (22 Comments)

My first fruit snack of the day consisted of two kiwi with the fur on. Fruit fashion faux pas or not, I rolled with it (and quickly too lest anyone throw a bucket of red paint on it in protest).

Sliced Kiwi

Lunch was my (as of late) favorite open faced homemade guac sandwich. As I was cutting up carrot sticks for my side of crunch I remembered something I saw Sarah of LovinMyTummy fame do and broke out a the salsa.

Wednesday Lunch

(My carrots are hoping you’ll give peace a chance.)

Salsa and carrots? Brilliant.

When I wasn’t eating fruit this morning, was drinking green lemonade.

juice_for_two

Juice for two.

Even the Man Drinks Green Lemonade

Green Lemonade is even growing on Zak. (Maybe he should see a doctor about that.)

And after juice, I did exactly what I said I wasn’t going to do. I googled.

If your pupa has been very dark for over 48 hours, it is probably dead.

I’m almost positive our little buddy is gone. He started turning brown well over 48 hours ago. They are supposed to be green and plump until they are about to emerge but ours is brown and looking kind of shrivled.

Life’s a Beach

My fruit and juice breakfast wore off by about 10:30, so I made a bowl of banana and chocolate oatbran before we headed out on today’s adventure.

choc_oatbran

Cooked on the stove with water and chocolate almond milk and cocoa powder. Topped with sliced banana, almond butter and coconut.

I threw a bunch of food into our lunch bag and off we went to meet some friends at the beach.

We played in the water.

We played in the sand.

I’m pretty sure taking a break for lunch was my idea.

A Little of This

July 20th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (10 Comments)

So today… there was a little of this.

a_little_of_that

A little of that.

We broke for lunch and I made a little hummus sandwich. And took a giant picture of it.

Toasted Ezekiel bread with mustard, garlic hummus, red leaf and tomato.

And pretended I was a little dinosaur eating giant steamed trees.

parm

And steamed clouds.

Sometime between lunch and dinner came cookie time. We busted out the Newman’s Own Organics Champion Chip Cookies.

Observe.

I think they were acceptable.

A Real Job

July 17th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (7 Comments)

I’ve sat at my desk today all today like the old days when I had a “real job”.

I broke for lunch and ate at my desk. When we’re child free here, not a single second can be wasted.

A giant salad made up of just about every vegetable in my fridge. Red leaf, green leaf, boston bibb, carrots, raw corn cut off the cob (have you tried this yet?? SO sweet and juicy – GET ON IT!), tomato, green pepper tossed in homemade Italian. And some Green and Black dark chocolate that I took a bite out of before I snapped the pic.
