Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right

Immediately after I hit Publish this morning we were off for a homeschooling meet up with some friends at a playground.

Tube Crawlin'

Do you remember being a kid and running without wondering when it was time to stop? Running to try and catch a bird or running like you were being chased by a monster in the basement that was going to pull you back down if you didn’t get to the top of the basement stairs before the door closed at the bottom of the stairs behind you?

Run Ava Run!

(See her out there running like it’s nobody’s business?)

After lunch today we were off to run some errands and explored a brave new frontier. OK really it was just a playground we’d never been to before. Brave new frontier sounds much more interesting though if you ask me.

A dino? Or a rhino? You decide.

Dino? Or Rhino?

This was my second attempt to take this picture…

Swinging Things

My first attempt was thwarted by this… this… THING!

Water Snacks and Pink Shoes

We had an errand to run this morning, and fortunately it landed us very near the library, so we stopped in for a visit. First stop: the bird cages.

Checking Out the Birds

Be sure to check out Maxine’s self selected ensemble. I just got those shoes for her at a thrift shop ($2!!) and no other shoes have been worn since. I kid you not that she threw a complete fit last night when I told her she could not wear them to bed.

Home from the library, I was thrilled to get the mail and find the new Runner’s World waiting for me!

Intuitive Eating Refresher

Today has totally felt like a Saturday. Monday? Really?

My little juice prank went off without a hitch this morning you’ll be glad to know. He’s a good sport and shares my crazy sense of humor. He laughed at the lid on the juice and said that it was definitely one joke that could have gone horribly wrong, but he would have been more sad over lost juice than a messy fridge.

After juice jokes, I changed into bike riding gear and had a little kiwi for a snack before heading out.

It Is My Duty

I keep waiting for the watermelon to stop tasting so good –

Watermelon

but alas, that time has yet to come. I guess I’ll just have to keep testing the watermelons until I’m sure watermelon season is over. It is my duty.

So as luck would have it my mom had a technological snow day of sorts and was able to leave work early – thus I was able to get my run checked off the to-do list much earlier than I anticipated.

Midday sun + warm but not too hot air + slight breeze = perfect running weather.  It was my duty to run.

A Lesson in Vegetarian Lasagna

If you’ve never made lasagna, walk with me please.  It’s time for us to chat.

This is actually one of the first vegetarian dishes I ever made.

No, wait.

This is actually one of the first meals I ever made – period. In fact, I tear up now when I think about this vegetarian lasagna recipe.

(Not really. But I do like to pretend that I’m dramatic sometimes.)

This morning I had a meeting at Ava’s homeschooled school. That’s right, my homeschooled kid will be going to school. Just once a week for 3 hours with a bunch of other homeschoolers, but still – we call it school.

Aunt Ellen stayed with the girls while I went to the meeting. I snacked on an apple on the drive there.

And ate a Larabar mid meeting.

Home and more than ready to eat, I went with fast. Just your run of the mill everything-but-the-kitchen-sink gigantic tossed salad.

After breakfast this morning we set out to run a couple of errands and stopped at Zak’s mom’s house before heading home. We were there under the guise of “visiting” but really it was all about torturing chickens.

Peek

Do you see Ms. Maxine in there?

Visit Chickens

Maxine, the girl who doesn’t like to get dirty.

Not Shy

Ava, in her own words, setting “chicken traps”.

Chicken Traps

Chicken Traps = a sea of corn so they’ll be so busy eating they won’t see Maxine coming. Yes, Maxine, the same girl who won’t throw a rock with sand on it.

Corny Dinner

Be amazed as I make a veggie sandwich appear and then disappear right before your very eyes!

Lunch time magic.

step 1 step 2 step 3
step 4 step 5 step 6
step 7 step 8 step 9
money shot step 10 step 12

Pretty impressive if I do say so myself. I minored in sandwich sorcery in college.

Plus a little protein and dessert tied up into a fun package; the last of a container of 2% Fage, a little pour of maple syrup and a sprinkle of homemade granola.

fage 1 fage 2 fage 3

A little snacky as I finalized my list before heading out for some groceries late afternoon.

Continuing with today’s fruit for breakfast theme, I polished off a bunch of a cantaloupe as I got us packed up and ready to the head to the museum today.

more fruit

This was also about the same time that Ava learned the internet was down.

Internet Down

I can totally relate, kid.

So off we went to the Museum of Play.

We played.

And waited for butterflies to land on our shadows.

Have I mentioned that my legs have grown longer? I think it’s all the green juice.
