It’s Not Peachy Being Green

September 8th, 2011 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast

Right Kermie?

Kermit the Frog

(something like that.)

Random fact: my kids never took any interest in Sesame Street. I WAS TOTALLY LOOKING FORWARD RELIVING MY CHILDHOOD, GIRLS! That was part of the reason I had kids in the first place.

Anyways.

Peaches! More peaches! Peaches are turning out to be one of my new favorite smoothie additions.

Ginger Peach Green Smoothie

They are just so… peachy?

Load Up Smoothie Ingredients

Layered with frozen banana slices and some spinach, they make a great smoothie trio.

My other new favorite smoothie additive -

Grind Your Ginger

would be ginger. Time to turn that peach spinach banana trio into a ginger quartet.

To add fresh ginger, shave off the outer skin with a knife. With some help from a little flounder ginger grinder (or maybe a fork if you are flounderless?) smush it all around until you’ve got a tablespoon or so worth of ginger juice and pulp.

I’ve got the whole “food as my medicine” thing on my mind right now as I’m consciously trying to incorporate more ginger into my diet. Ginger can help keep inflammation at bay, something that I’m coming to understand can help as your mileage increases for marathon training.

I’m no stranger to ginger, I love it in green juice! Why I haven’t added ginger to a green smoothie until now is as mysterious to me as kids who could not care less about a sweet, giant yellow bird with big, knobby orange legs.

Into the blender with a tablespoon or so hemp seeds for protein and some water to make blending go a bit more smoothly.

Ginger? What ginger? I don’t see any ginger?

Well, I can taste it! And It. Is. Awesome.

And now, as my old pal Grover would say;

Neeeeaaaaaaar!

Green Smoothie Near

Faaaaaaaaaar!

Green Smoothie Far

Gone.

Green Smoothie Gone

Just like my Sesame Street dreams of yesteryear.
