Three Signs
November 15th, 2009 | Posted by in BreakfastBLAH, I’ve got a food hangover this morning. There are three tell-tale signs that I over did it last night.
1. I woke up feeling less than stellar
2. I was not at all interested in breakfast when I woke up
3. I did not care to know what the scale had to say this morning
I know that I felt free as a bird to eat whatever I wanted and more than I usually would because I ran 9 miles yesterday. It’s like my long run was my ticket to over indulging. Is that really the reason I run long? So I can eat whatever I want? NO it is NOT. I wasn’t overly hungry last night, I just felt like I had permission to eat whatever and as much as I wanted because I ran so far yesterday. That cake came home with us last night and I did NOT need another piece before bed. What the hell was I thinking?
Well, I’m paying for it this morning. Lesson learned. A lesson I thought I’d already learned but I guess I was due for a refresher course. Finding a balance with exercise, eating, maintaining my weight (and ideally – losing these last 10) is work in progress and oh yes, I am still in progress – that’s all I can say. Onward and upward. Today is a new day.
Juice was most definitely on the agenda for this morning when I finally felt ready for something.
Come on romaine, do your green thing.
That head of lettuce was accompanied into the juicer by two carrots, two apples, two lemons, ginger and a giant cucumber. Juice for two.
Hoping my glass of green goodness detoxes too much ultimate white cake from every cell in my body. Well, every cell except my brain cells so I don’t forget about how I’m feeling this morning.
Maybe that glass can help me find a hair brush or something too.
We’ve got a beautiful day in store for us here today. I’ve got plans to meet up with a friend for a little trail run early this afternoon. Green juice and fresh air make everything better.

Onward and upward is the phrase that pays. If you ask me, trying to find a balance between exercise, eating and maintaing is hard work. Does anyone have the perfect balance? I don’t even think Jillain does. Onward and upward.
Ha, I am totally with you on that one. I ate two white rolls last night with some Earth Balance and a (vegan but still full of sugar+flour) brownie and it’s amazing what those things can do to you. I’m sipping some warm water with lemon slices because even juice or a green smoothie sounds horrible right now.
I don’t know Ali that cake almost looked worth it!
i’ve had my fair share of mornings like these. lessons learned in fact. I know you’ll start to feel better later on in the day! I bet that fresh air will work just great!
onward and upward!!!!
no worries my dear, just keep on doing your healthy thang and all will be okay
I have juice on the menu this morning too.
I had a nibble day yesterday…
oh well, some days it’s nice to just have fun and enjoy it for all it’s worth.
a 9 mile run gives you a lot of lattitude!
no worries.
xo
You feel after eating possibly too much food like I do when I cheat and eat the wrong food…i.e. soy. I cannot cheat on dairy or gluten, period. Or I feel like crap. For a mere week or so. Those few bites for 5 mins are not worth a day or 6 or 10 of feeling out of balance. But even I need to re-learn these lessons, usually once every 12-24 mos I cheat and pay the price for a week+
BTW you look like you’re 22 in that pic. Your juice is detoxing the yrs right off
I love that picture, and Averie is right, your looking mighty young little one!!
Onward and Upward is right… at least you wont have to worry about eating well for a while, those mistakes usually stay with us for a while and keep us on track… you’ll probably look at cake and think BLAH for a while now…
Have a glorious day!!
xoxo
Haha…I totally know the feeling! A long run always makes me think the same way, and I find myself constantly reminding myself that it isn’t why I run in the first place. Ah well…it happens! Cake happens! I’m sure the greens will be just the thing to have you feeling back to normal soon.
Works like a charm, doesn’t it?
Sorry you woke up feeling less than stellar, but you know it was a one time thing and to just move on. It happens, and it’s quite alright. Down that juice and you’ll feel back to normal in no time!
Um, that picture totally encapsulates what I am feeling as well. I celebrated my great great uncle’s 100 birthday yesterday with way too much fried seafoodness. It was delicious for about ten minutes and then I felt GROSS afterwards. I have been drinking tea with lemon all day in an effort to get back to normal. Three cheers for green things in our diet today. (One, two, anddd I’m tired thanks to the white yucky stuff in my diet this past week.)
Yes, green juice does make everything better!
And it’s all a journey… It’s okay to take a little detour once in a while; I know you are already back on your “regular road!”
I hope you enjoyed your trail run and the rest of your Sunday!
I never care to know what the scale says. In fact, I’m pretty sure it got jacked. And by jacked I mean I ran over it with my car.
Food hangovers are the worst! All your other food looked really great though – so that must have been one strong cake! Was it spiked???
I think deep down I don’t run long distances so much anymore because of the reason you mention — feeling a little entitled to ‘more’ food. I was ALWAYS feeling hungry when I would train for my half marathons or distance events. And I always ended up with more bodyfat too.
You are rocking it sister… sometimes the metabolism can benefit from a “re-feed” so I’ll bet your scale will go gangbusters this week!
