Change of Plans

More homeschool ice skating today! Except today we found the equivalent to training wheels for beginner ice skaters.

Training Wheels for Ice Skaters

We had another little lesson this week from a very sweet instructor. (But would have preferred Sk8ter Gurl Hollyz or Ice Dancing With The Stars Cindy – sorry ladies, we had to settle.)

Homeschool Skating

And within 10 minutes, she was off and running. Errrr, skating.

Now She's FAST

From the ice rink we skid home for a fast, late lunch and then off to the gym for homeschooling Phys Ed.

Homeschool Gym Class

Look at all those little homeschoolers! They look so… so… NoRmaL! Go figure!

Kick Ball

Maxine watched. And snacked.

Watching Snacking

She worked on her sorting skills, separating the evil walnuts from her precious raw cashews and raisins (how dare I!) and very thoughtfully leaving them “for Ava” in the hood of Ava’s coat. Such a good sister.

Walnuts

Snacked up, she’s off!

And She's Off

Running her solo homeschooled gym class for toddlers.

On Her Solo Homeschool Gym Class

I had a big dinner planned for tonight but after a day full of comings and goings, the very last thing I felt like doing was slave over the stove. Instead I just did a little indentured servant over the stove and borrowed an idea from Eat, Drink and Be Vegan – hummus quesadillas. Except I added cheese and totally de-veganized this. Just call me this Eat, Drink and De-Vegan.

Quesadillas

Pan misto‘d with olive oil, a whole wheat tortilla smeared with a couple tablespoons homemade garlic hummus, then sprinkled with 1 oz of shredded Organic Valley chedder cheese.

Topped with a couple handfuls of fresh spinach.

Add Spinach

And another whole wheat tortilla. Grilled on medium for about 5 minutes on one side before flipped to the other side for another 5 minutes.

Spinach Hummus Stack

Yeah. Let’s just say this rocked and totally kicked the ass of any fancy schmancy dinner I had in mind.

With Salsa

550 calories all together, subtract 80 if you opt to go the vegan route. Serve with salsa. And drool.

Run Run Run Til The Running Store Takes My Garmin Away

A frosty start this morning.

Frosty Start

It could been the middle of a blizzard for all I cared, I was getting out there today come hell or high water to play with my new toy!

New Toy

With a GPS strapped to my wrist I didn’t give two hoots about my route and just ran. I typically stick to a handful of routes that I know the mileage of so I know how far I went.

Free at last! Thank Garmin 405 almighty I’m free at last!

OK I know that’s totally pathetic, why do I need a gadget to let me be free to run a random route? I don’t, I’m just a nerd like that.

Out and back, my little watchy watch told me I ran 4.49 miles in 36:55, average pace 8:13. Love. IT.

I made myself some a glass of green lemonade to sip on while getting the Garmin software installed and set up on my computer.

Setup

ANT Stick! This little sucker allows the watch to wirelessly transmit my workout data to my computer as soon as I get near my computer with the watch on.

November 12 Run Stats

I love the heart rate monitor and that I could see both my average and maximum heart rate during each mile and the number of calories I burned! I normally don’t care about calories burned but now that I’m calorie counting mode I am interested to know the numbers. I entered my stats in the unit this morning before I left so it should be fairly accurate.

Compared to the Garmin 305, the 405 is smaller, but it’s still bigger and clunkier than my usual watch. I’m not complaining, I’m just noting.

Watch Size

Totally fun! I’m ready to go out again! Right now! Pesky kids.
