Let the House Hunting Begin

October 15th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast

Instead of working out this morning, I worked on my to-do list. I think I’m addicted to giving myself too much to do. I can’t seem to stop signing on for things. I’m always volunteering to help, offering to do something for someone, raising my hand when no one else does. I think I always do this because my brain always comes back to – Sure, why not! I’m a stay at home mom. What else have I got to do? Well dummy, you’ve actually got a ton of stuff do.

OK let’s get to work. But hmmm I think I want some fresh juice to get the day started off right. That sure sounds delightful, doesn’t it? Fresh squeezed orange juice? Oh! Magnificent! I’m a stay at home mom! What else have I got to do with my time but make fresh squeezed orange juice for everyone?

OK shut up and get over yourself. Eat the damn orange like a normal person, save yourself from having to add “clean juicer” to your to-do list and get back to work.

Geez man what a slave driver.

Juicy Orange

On the do list this morning – get the mortgage ball rolling so we move forward with a very large item on the to do list: “Move into the city”. I had a phone appointment this morning a Mortgage Originator at 9:00. Of course at 8:45 I realized I was hungry. Do I have enough time to add “whip something up for breakfast before I have everyone’s favorite conversation with the bank” to the to-do list? Let’s do it.

Fast fruit cereal. Diced banana covered in cocoa powder and flax, topped with sliced almonds and chocolate unsweetened almond milk. Done.

Quick! Add “Eat breakfast in 7 minutes” to the to-do list!

I scarfed ate at my desk and waited for the call from my new mortgage friend Jim.

Waiting for Phone to Ring

I’m not sure how Jim feels about his picture showing up on my blog considering we just met this morning, but you can probably pick out his bank mug shot on my monitor in the background. The photo release form is in the mail, and will likely pass our mortgage pre-approval letter like two ships passing in the night!

Thanks Jim! I think I love you. Quick! Add “Hunt for dream home” to the to do list! I’m a stay at home mom! What else have I got to do?

I’m in that house hunting, mortgage stuff mode too, although I’d rather move to the city like you, Iowa is just not me!
Fresh squeezed OJ sounds great, were you going to add other fruits/veggies to that too or just plain OJ?

Oooh…..SO exciting!!! :) I think you will easily find something you like and sell your house fast.

I’m jealous because you know I have wanted to move for a while. I’ll live my excitement through you for now. :)

haha…you’re funny about taking on stuff because you are a SAHM and have nothing else to do. I am, too, but always say no. (haha) I keep telling myself I need to say “yes” more often. You certainly do have a full plate, though.

Well, hello Jim ;). Are you single? I like bald men, really I do.

You have a cake button on your stove?! That is so cool, I’ve never seen that before. Take it with you when you move!!

I love looking at houses, I don’t know if I’ve mentoned that before (I think I have but it’s worth repeating). Not only do I break into open houses, but I creep fancy houses on realtors.com. Do you know you can get a mansion in Georgia for $250,000?? Up here in MA that will get you a ramshackle room above a garage.

  • ME too!!!! “raising my hand when no one else does.”

Congrats, this is soooo exciting!!!!!! As someone who just spent the last 5 mos of my life getting a mortgage, girl if you wanna chat about getting one in the current economic climate, email me. I have so many stories. The mortgage I got at 33 was harder than ones I got at 21, 24, 26 with far less prove-able income back then. But once you’re in your new house, it doesnt matter and it was all worth it! I am soooo happy for you!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!!

OHHH, I am in MY house for life. WE just did this JAN 08. Than remodeled it. BLEH

I was a “stay home pregnant woman” what else did I have to do?? was my hubbies thought!

I, of course could have come up with about a MILLION other things I would have RATHER spent my 5 mos at home doing…but NO

I was picking tile with rude sales people (don’t mess with a pregnant WOMAN) and deciding on toilets…and fixtures…

GLAD it’s over and my husband had better bury me int his house..when he talks about “selling” it I go sharpen my favorite knife!

    and he changes the subject!
(and turns on the zombie game)

    hahaha

I LOVE looking at new homes though..it’s fun to see how they decorate!

GOOD LUCK mama! you’ll find the perfect home in the City.
    oh, and HI JIM!

and sometimes I EAT my juice too…the body is the easiest juicer to clean, I have found!

    Happy day to ya!

Wow……. A NEW HOUSE!?!?!? That is so cool!! What kind of things are you looking for in house??? Do you HAVE to have anything specific or do you think you’ll just KNOW when you see it?? I can’t wait to find out more!! We just moved into our house a little over a year ago so the process is still fresh in my mind. Lots of fun!!! A new chapter in your lives!! 😀

Oh, and when I glanced at your picture I thought you were on Dr Phill’s website!!!!

haha, i always try to do too much. ironically, i will be posting about this later tonight as well. i am not good with too much time on my hands. i am single with no kids or a hubby, what else do i have to do?

  • Whit says:

MOVING!?!?! And to the CITY? Why whatever are you going to do with yourself then????

    Congrats on the move!

  • Erika says:

Good luck! I hated the whole house searching, buying, selling process, so I hope it goes really smoothly for you.

And I laughed when I saw your orange dilemna. As my kids and I were trying to get out of the house this morning, I last minute decided to juice a few oranges since the kids are starting with the sniffles. This led to them enjoying the juice and me frantically trying to scrub the juicer before the bus came!

  • Bernadette says:

I have an idea! How about you move to California (we have LOTS of cities)… it would be oh so fun!!! I promise to be your very best friend and babysit when needed!

Also, thanks for the comments on the blog and when you are ready to take on a cycling adventure in Vermont let me know- I’m always up for adventure!!

    xoxo

I don’t envy you at all. I can’t imagine selling or buying a new house at all. That takes way too much energy. Good luck and have fun!

  • Shari B. says:

Good luck Alison! I hope the call went well… Mortgage stuff can be very headache-inducing! House hunting is so fun though! My hubby and I often watch “House Hunters” on HGTV.

I think stay-at-home and work-from-home peeps are the BUSIEST! And people think we sit around all day just waiting for the mailman, I swear! :) Soon I’m going to have to get better about saying no to things – I have a hard time saying no.

Julie’s comment made me snort out loud… she’s funny!

  • How exciting! I hope everything goes well! Great job tackling that to-do list.

  • I used to the be the person who would always volunteer for everything and anything and in the process totally forgot about herself… It’s been a long process to change this “volunteerism”… :)

    A new house? Exciting… Scary… Stressful… Wonderful… Fun… Enjoy the process (as much as you can!)! :)

  • Liz says:

Have fun looking for a new house! That’s a huge moment right there. And I think stay at home moms do not get enough credit for all that they do…just sayin! :)

  • I always sign up for way too much stuff too! And once its done and I have some breathing room, I add more! Good luck with the mortgage stuff!

  • Lizzy says:

YIPPIE house hunting! Ah girl i hope something amazing comes your way :)

  • House hunting…something that is both fun and stressful..haha! I have a never ending to-do-list too!!
