Road Trip

October 3rd, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Breakfast

Glad you all liked my little sandwich eating GIF last night! I used Animation Shop 3 to string the photos together and create an animated GIF.

So today I’m leaving on a little mother-daughter road trip, except this time I get to be the daughter on this trip instead of the mother.

Heading to Toronto for one night for a blogger meet up tomorrow afternoon! Considering I’m the only one here with a valid passport the fam has to stay home. Originally it was going to be just a day trip by myself on Sunday, but then I thought it could be a great excuse to get away for a little momcation. The last time my mom and I went on a trip together just the two of us was oh… 1993? We’re both looking forward to a little girly excursion sans men and children.

But first! A bunch to do before I leave today.

An early morning run and it was cold enough to warrant gloves this morning. 40’s = gloves. (Right, Lizzy?)

Stinky Gloves

Wondering what was going through my mind as I was snapping this picture? That would be wondering when the last time those gloves were washed, that’s what.

After my 4 mile run, I felt like breakfast could easily be delayed so I jumped in the car to get groceries and stock up on all the essentials they’ll need while I’m gone.

Top of the list:

Essentials

That’s right, toilet paper. We’re out and well, yeah, you know. If I left without replenishing the TP stock I know I could very well come back to find the little bin of mismatched socks mysteriously empty.

The fridge and cupboards are now filled with all sorts of things for them to eat, including a Green and Black 70% Dark Chocolate bar for Zak so he has something to suck on for comfort when the going gets tough tonight around 6:00pm. Whatever it takes to insure that I’m not forbidden to leave him alone with them again.

What’s next on my list of things to do this morning? Breakfast.

And you better believe hot Pumpkin Oats were on the menu!

Saturday Breakfast

1/2 c water, 1/2 c unsweetened hemp milk, < 1/2 c canned pumpkin, a tsp of agave and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice brought to a boil. Reduce to simmer, add a 1/2 c rolled oats and cook for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover for 2 minutes and top as desired!

Pumpkin Oats

Toppings of my desire would be sliced banana and walnuts – this turned out to be a huge bowl of pumpkin goodness and I do not expect to feel hungry again until I’ve crossed international lines.

Left to do? PACK! GO!

If you don’t hear from me tonight, somebody call the border patrol and make sure I haven’t been detained for abandoning my husband and children for 36 hours, OK?
