More Adventures With Three, Part Two

September 25th, 2009 | Posted by Alison Spath in Morning Craziness

So where were we? Oh yes, the conclusion to my titillating cliff hanger from our shoe (mis)adventures from yesterday!

I let her purple crocs stew in that trash can for about a half hour, while I stewed on what I was going to do.

They were only $4 and they are almost too small. But I could hand them down to my girlfriend Sharon who also has two young daughters… they have a lot of life left in them! I hate to be so wasteful. But on the other hand I want Maxine to know that I say what I mean and I mean what I say!

From your replies I know you all know the inner torment this created!

Class ended and we walked to the door. As I approached the garbage with Maxine perched on my hip I lifted the top as we peered over the edge and looked into the garbage can.

Thrown Out Shoes

Yup. There they are. “Do you really want to throw them out?” I asked her.

Yes, was her reply.

“What if we get them out and give them to Haylee?”

“YES! Let’s give them to Haylee and buy me new shoes!”

Crap. She’s got it all figured out.

So yes, I snagged those shoes out of the can and now Sharon is thanking her lucky stars she’s got such a great friend who gives her fabulous hand me downs that were pulled from the trash.

Washed and ready to go.

For Sharon

An unexpected twist just this morning though! Maxine came down to see her purple shoes in the delightful pink bag and said she wanted to wear them.

Sorry, kiddo, you trashed them!

“I’m sorry I threw them out Mommy!”

Ava even chimed in with her 5 year old wisdom, “It’s not too late! They are still here! Did you tell Sharon yet?”

Well, yes, thanks to the blog, I’m telling her right now as a matter of fact. Shoes were retrieved, yes. But no, you agreed to hand them down, conversation over.

Someone please send the link to this post to Maxine’s psychiatrist some day, ok?

But even before Maxine had a chance to renege on her shoe offer, I woke up this morning feeling like it was a juice day – except I got downstairs to discover we were out of cucumbers.

I really love cucumber in my green lemonade! They give such a cool, fresh taste, not to mention those suckers deliver a lot of liquid for a little price. I was feeling a little overnight oaty this morning too so I quick prepped some oats to soak for a couple hours and then decided to hop on my bike to head to the corner grocery store to snag a cuke. I’m planning for today to be a rest day so I can take full advantage of the girls being with Ellen and cross off as many things on my to do list as possible. I welcomed the excuse to take a short little ride to the store first thing, it was the perfect start to the morning.

It’s worth noting here that I really hate using plastic bags, especially for just one or two items. I paid for my essential ingredient, declined the offer for a bag and stuffed my cucumber in my pocket. Upon approaching the road and intersection though I started to wonder if maybe was today was the day I should have accepted the offer for plastic bag.

Offensive Cucumber

Is that a cucumber in your pocket or am I just happy I’m making juice today?

Embarrassing Juice

Yeah, I’m just happy I’m making juice. And happy I made overnight oats too.

Half a smashed banana, 1/2 cup of rolled oats, a scoop of almond butter and some unsweetened cocoa powder and unsweetened chocolate almond milk soaked for a couple hours and topped with sliced banana right before eating.

Friday Overnight Oats

I kind of wish something would have happened to my shoes on the way to store to get a cucumber. Like I fell and my shoes slipped off and tumbled into the gutter and were unreachable. Or maybe my overnight oats could have slipped from my hand and covered my sneakers in chocolate oat goodness. But alas, neither of these things happens and I have no fun “karma’s a bitch” way to tie the two parts of this post together – wouldn’t that be perfect though? Unfortunately I can’t make this stuff up.

OMG…. what an exciting 2 days of posts! I’m glad I got to read them back to back….. I don’t think I could have handled the suspense!!! You’re a good Mom! Last night I almost broke down. My daughter (20 months now) had her first real life tantrum. It was straight crying for an hour and 15 minutes. I tried everything! My son… my good, first born angel NEVER did this. Sheesh….. glad to see there are other stubborn little girls in this world!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • I just had visions of your girls reading the posts later in life. It will be a great way to connect with you when they are adults or if they happen to grow up and have children of their own.

  • Leianna says:

At least they are going to someone who will maybe appreciate them a little more!
Great cucumber picture in the pants:)

Ahhh the suspense was killing me last night, i’m glad you retrieved them and are now giving them away to a friend with little girlies of her own! wonderful decision! :) I had a feeling Maxine was going to want to wear her crocs, once she found out they were being given away. hehe!

Can you tell me how you make your lemonade again? That sounds so good right now,and to be honest i would have never thought to put cucumber in the mix, but you know i would never diss a veggie in my dranks! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Nice cucumber hanging outta your pocket. That’s all I can do to get past that. Sorry :) Anyway I should just have you send me your juice pulp so I can make dehyd’ed pulp crackers since I still dont wanna juice. I agree cukes are huge bang for the juicing buck and unlike celery, I love the taste of cukes in my juice. Glad you got in a bike ride, alone. So important for the ole mommy sanity I tell ya! :)

So did Maxine keep her shoes? Too funny that she changed her mind as she saw them ready to be given away.

  • Yum Yucky says:

So it’s the ‘ole cucumber in the pocket trick? (whatever that’s supposed to mean)

I hate when I find silverware and plates in my garbage. The non-paper-plastic kind. Which probably explains why every single butter knife in my house has disappeared. All of ’em. I have not one.

    I want your oats

  • maria says:

Your overnight oats look so good. And they seems to easy to make. I need to investigate further and try them out myself. So many of you guys out here in blogland are fans of OO. :)

Love the cucumber!!! Too funny. Think it’s great that your refuse plastic bags for a few things though :-). Are things changing in the States with bags? When we were last there in 2007 whenever we said we didn’t need a bag or asked them to put things in a bag we already had (this was at Disneyland) they looked at us like we were crazy. Sometimes they proceeded to wrap things in a plastic bag then hand them to us to put in our other bag :-).

    • Alison says:

Yes, reusable bags are definitely catching on here. I use them all the time and do everything I can to avoid the use of a plastic bag. I HATE it when they wrap things in plastic before putting it in my reusable bag! Can I have a plastic bag for my reusable bag?? Yeah, thanks for that!
