Lettuce Go for a Bike Ride

August 15th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Healthy Habits - (15 Comments)

Having gotten my run in last night, I was just plum in the mood to go for a bike ride this morning.

Pre Ride Plum

I didn’t want to go too far or too long because I had plans to hit up the Farmer’s Market at the end.

I rode around town and just shy of 40 minutes rolled into the Farmer’s Market about a mile and a half from home. It’s held in the parking lot of church and I always pay careful attention to where I park lest I’m struck dead by lightening.

Friday Snack Attack

August 14th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Life - (13 Comments)

Per our usual Friday routine, the girls went with Aunt Ellen today. I ran errands after dropping them off and was positively starving by the time I got home.

My latest trick – A LA Natalia Rose – is to snack on carrots while I prepare lunch/dinner if I’m really hungry. This keeps me from overeating when I finally do sit down to eat and it keeps me chewing my arm off or chewing anyone’s head off because I’m hungry and grumpy. Lucky for everyone, I was home alone and the only one who got his head chewed off was the carrot.

The Fountain of Youth

It’s crazy me with my crazy green juice again.

Crazy Me

I was thinking this morning about why I drink this juice most mornings of the week. I want to be fit and healthy, but I also want to hold on to my remaining shreds of youth for as long as I can.

Stay At Home Thursday

This morning I was ready to whip out my young coconut meat. Although that might be misconstrued as something inappropriate for those under 18, really it’s just me getting the scraped out guts of my young coconut from yesterday out of the refrigerator. Sorry to burst your dirty mind bubble.

Let's make mama a smoothie

I first learned about the wonder of young coconuts from The Raw Food Detox Diet.

Diamond in the Rough

All this green juice has gone straight to my head, no?

I woke up sort of late this morning, after 6:30! Days are getting shorter + a new bedroom on the west side of the house = a room that isn’t filled with morning sun. Conclusion: I’m going to have to start setting the alarm.

This morning’s run was 5.28 miles at a comfortable pace, I was home again in 42 minutes. I had to listen to an old episode of Jillian Michael’s radio show this morning, I miss her wisdom.

Post run I busted out the rest of my cantaloupe from yesterday.

Worth a Thousand Words

Today’s meals and snacks have been pretty random. I don’t know what’s up, maybe I’m getting my period or something.

I had some

veggies and hummus

late morning. Then I started looking around at all the house work to be done and feeling like I’m never going to

I said

screw

this and I put it all on the

back burner

and let the

chips

fall where they may. We met up with my dad at the yacht

for a little

Why I’m trying to get this young coconut open, you see.

sweet young coconut

This is my second young coconut. Getting these things open is no small task. Considering the ones in my bra aren’t so young anymore I was inspired to try, try again. And a special thanks to Linda for additional inspiration and her fabulous idea to use a mallet instead of trying to cut this thing open with an axe and keeping my hand behind my back to ensure “I don’t lose it”, as Natalia Rose would say.

Sun of a Beach

A little beach trip with some friends was in order for today, so we threw lunch in a bag this morning and off we went.

Lunch for mom? Leftovers.

Plus a Jocalat Larabar.

And some Newman’s Own Organics Honey Wheat pretzels from our goodie box for sharing.

Snack and Share

While practically all the Newman’s Own Organics loot we were sent to try has been fabulous, I have to say these weren’t that great. Not BAD, but just – weird. Maxine spit hers out and a seagull ate it.  The seagull had no complaints.

Get the Funk Out

August 11th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Breakfast - (13 Comments)

I awoke this morning feeling like I spent yesterday in a haze. I’m not sure what’s up but I am bound and determined to bust out of it today. Maybe because I hadn’t had green juice or run since Saturday? Not enough fresh fruit yesterday? Cooped up inside an air conditioned house and no sun on my skin? Well you can bet your hiney I’m checking all those things off my list today come hell or high water.

First things first, a perfectly ripe, sweet, juicy, organic white peach. Phew that’s a lot of adjectives for one innocent, delicious, little peach. Oh look, more adjectives.

Intuitive Fruit Dehydrating Yoga

August 10th, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Dinner Time - (24 Comments)

I found the instructions for my food dehydrator online and got to work this morning.

As instructed, I soaked sliced bananas in lemon juice for a few minutes before placing them on the tray.

Two trays of these guys.

Sliced up and cored a red delicious apple, soaked in lemon juice and onto the tray they went.

And a kiwi tray. Peeled, but not soaked.

All that fruit slicing – call me crazy – I went ahead ate a hydrated kiwi with reckless abandon. I’m a wild woman.
