Fun from the Shower

August 21st, 2009 | Posted by Alison in Morning Craziness

This morning I fired up a yogadownload podcast and did 45 minutes of Yoga for Runners. Holy boats and standing splits this is a challenging class! But it’s all good. I will be visiting this class again for sure.

I know I’ve had too much to eat the night before when I’m barely noticing hunger after 9 o’clock the following morning. Or maybe those corn cakes just have some incredible staying power!

I cut up a pear to nosh on before hopping in the shower – I’ve got a lunch date today!

Pear for Breakfast

Since breakfast was pretty boring this morning I thought today might be a good day to tour the bathroom instead of the kitchen.books

Natalia Rose talks about dry brushing in The Raw Foods Detox Diet and she says it’s great way to aid in the detoxification of your cells. Your skin is the largest organ and should not be neglected! Dry brushing helps scratch off dead skin cells and can aid in detoxing. I found mine at in the healthy and beauty sections Wegmans and have been a dry brush convert for quite a few weeks now. Even if the detoxing is just a bunch of bologna I’m still doing it – it feels damn good! I brush myself down before hopping in the shower, or if I’m feeling like the hair on my arms is looking a little tangled.

Before I even thought about what the conventional soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, etc were doing to my body (and the little bodies here too) I made the switch to some more natural products out of my concern for the environment – and what these soaps and other beauty products are doing to our water and air. Jillian Michaels really helped me understand why the ingredients found in so many of the products almost ALL of us use EVERY DAY are so harmful to our health in Master Your Metabolism. Check it out if you want to be scared into throwing almost everything in your cupboards directly into the trash!

Burt’s Bees is one product that I trust and love. These are one of my favorite shampoos and conditioners, I buy and use these all the time.

Yes, these pics are coming straight at you live from my shower this morning.

They got a great selection of baby products that I used when Maxine was a baby. With Ava I went the more traditional Johnson & Johnson route – which is definitely not a product I would use today. Unless things have changed (because honestly I haven’t looked) their products are full of parabens and phthalates among other ingredients that I’m learning more about and try to avoid.

I wash my face with the Burt’s Bees cream cleanser, it contains menthol which I love but Zak hates. No prob, all the more for me.

I was sent this Say Yes to Cucumbers shower gel a month or two ago to try and review. I’d never heard of the Say Yes to Cucumbers (of Say Yes to Carrots) product line until recently. I have their Say Yes to Melons lip gloss too and it’s great. I love that their ingredient list is full of unscary, all natural ingredients. They’ve got themselves a new customer here.

I’ll leave you today with the image of my smooching my dry brush – I love it that much.

Smooching My Brush

And now I’m off to meet up with my own mama – lunch, a movie and maybe a little shopping too. Want me to pick you up a dry brush?

That is so funny because I was actually thinking (while at the gym) that I should take a picture of the locker room shower at the gym because it is so fancy and spa like! I was picturing myself in the shower, taking photos, and some member reporting me for being a sketchy sketchball. Ha! I love the brush smooching!

Oh AND my juicer came todayyyyyyy. Juice will be made on Sunday night when I return home, PRONTO! So excited :)
