The Laws of Physics

Today I am thankful for the Laws of Physics.

Centrifugal Force for making my green juice.

And cleaning my lettuce.

I am also thankful for the Gravitational Pull on the Earth.

It allowed me to do 40 minutes of yoga.

3 sets of push ups: 20, 10, 20.

Plank for 2 minutes. I spent the last 15 seconds cursing the Law of Gravity. And the Law of Shaking Arms too.

Centrifugal Force was applied again to make juice for Zak.

More Experiments

I didn’t really intend for today to be a day full of experiments, but who doesn’t want to want to be a their own lab rat? I mean really.

We met our friends at the park and had a neat activity planned that all the kids loved, including mine.

Clear as mud, no?

We had a to walk around the playground and find the shapes drawn in the upper left corner of each box. Then the bottom two boxes were for any other shapes we found.

Cigarette butt? Ummm, I think that’s a tube? Yeah, draw a tube.

Wednesday Experiments

I still haven’t officially decided on running on the Rochester Marathon at the end of the summer, but I’ll admit that right now I feel like I’m leaning in that direction. That means at this point in the training program I need to start doing some longer runs during the week, as this is “Week 10”.

This morning I set out for a 7 mile run at a comfortable pace and was back in 57:07, making my average pace 8:09. I felt good for the whole run and the house was still quiet when I got back.

Food, Inc.

It must be a blue moon, because tonight, Zak I went out to see a movie.

I’ve been curious about Food, Inc. since I saw the film advertised on the lids of Stonyfield Farms yogurt containers for the past few months. Watching the trailer convinced me that we’d make an effort to go see this movie while it was still in the theaters.

Tonight the girls went with Zak’s mom while I left to go meet Zak in the city after work and patronize the only theater in our area showing this film; The Little, a small theater popular for showing indie and documentary films.

The Juice Gods Are Smiling At Me

Check out this email I that was waiting for me from Zak’s Aunt Ellen when I got home from my bike ride this morning!

Funny you should mention a juicer. The other day I was thinking that you might like my Dad’s juicer that has been looking for a new home, after having sat on my basement shelf for some time now. It is an ACME Supreme Juicerator Model 5001. My Dad was definitely ahead of his time as he was using flax seed oil, some raw foods and other nutritional ideas back in the day. You are welcome to try it out and see if it meets your needs. If it meets your needs you may keep it. If it doesn’t, you may still keep it!

The Scream

I’m starting to really wonder about my cat and his will to live.

With no work out yesterday I was more than ready to get out run this morning. An easy 4 in 33 minutes.

I came home to put together lunch for Zak and ate strawberries with reckless abandon for Breakfast Part I.

A short while later I was ready to make up for yesterday’s less than stellar bowl of cookie batter oats. Things had definitely improved today.

Changes

I was hungry sort of early today for lunch. This felt like more a snack than lunch. I made fast guac (avocado and salsa!) with some carrot legs to chomp on.

A few hours later Maxine and I were headed out to visit a friend. I was hungry and knew I had to eat before we left. In days gone by it would have been pretty typical to grab a handful of Kashi crackers and some hummus as a quick, healthy, out the door snack. I’m not knocking this as a healthy snack option, this is of course better than something from the fast food drive thru. I’ve just come to discover, especially this past week and the disappearance food cravings… any processed foods, organic or not, seem to be what sends me into a downward spiral with craving sugar and more processed carbs.

Lazy Laundry Sunday

Call us crazy, but we don’t have cable television. When we moved into our house four years ago we decided we would just use old fashioned rabbit ears and skip cable to save some money. Let me be clear that this was not my idea, but I went with it.

Turns out it was one of the best things we ever did. We watch way less TV because of it, and the girls watch movies from the library or shows on PBS. I like that they aren’t subjected to the advertising on TV. With the new converter boxes the digital signal comes in crystal clear and we have a few more channels to boot.

New Concepts

I’m still on the fence about running the Rochester Marathon this year, which is in mid September. I trained for it last year, but really it was all about just doing it AND I used it as motivation to have a guide and a schedule to make sure I was getting out there and exercising daily to help me stay on track with losing weight.

It's a Wrap

I sat down to lunch this afternoon after I finished up the last 25% of our lawn that I didn’t get to yesterday.

More marinated portobellos on a bed of greens tossed in my Ginger Miso dressing.

After lunch I set out on a bike ride to run some errands and get in a little unofficial exercise too. Want to go with me? Let’s roll.

First up, the post office about 1 mile away, to mail a package and a letter.

Next, the library, about 4 miles from the Post Office,
